Hi, I am using SoundForge 6.0 and since purchasing an iPod decided to start using mp3 formats. I can open MP3 files in soundforge and I am can save them in other formats. But when I try to Save As MP3 it looks like its about to start saving (with the space for the horizonal progress bars in the bottom left hand corner of the screen) but then I get the following message: " The file 'FILENAME.mp3" has been saved in a compressed format. The sound of the file may have changed due to the compression. Re-opening the file will allow you to hear any changes that may have occurred. Would you like to close the current window and re-open the file now? " If I click yes then it re-opens a file that is say 0.110 seconds long instead of 50 minutes it should be. If I click no it takes me back to my original file without doing anything. Can anyone help me please to suggest what i am doing wrong?! Thanks! |

Are you trying to save the .MP3 file directly to the iPod? I believe you have to use the software included with the iPod to save files to it. From my understanding the iPod will not play .MP3 files, it takes the .MP3 file and converts it to Mac's AAC format, the same with .WMA files. It automatically does this using the iPod's included software. Try saving the file to your local hard drive as an .MP3 and see if you get the same results. |

Claudia1981, Are you running 6.0e? If not, you can download it from Support | Updates at the top of this page. This problem sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't find any reference to it being fixed in the Readme file for the 6.0e update. Another thing to try is register for MP3 if you haven't done this yet. In the Save As dialog, click Custom and from there you can click the Register button to register for an MP3 license. |

I probably shouldn't have mentioned the iPod I think its just been a red herring. No I'm not saving directly to the iPod, I am just trying to save from Soundforge to a folder on my C drive. All other formats seem to save fine - its just MP3 I'm struggling with. Thanks for trying to help me. Claudia. |

SonyTSW: Thanks for the advice. I have registered for MP3 - that all went through fine. I'm not sure what version I'm running so I'll check and let you know how I get on. Thanks again. Claudia. |

I remember seeing messages like that when I using SF 5.0f, but never had a problem with it actually saving the file. There is a preference (options->preferences->file) for 'automatically re-open after save'. Check that and see if there is any difference. You won't get the re-open message but I'm not sure if it will actually solve the save problem. |

Thanks everyone for your help. Actually in the end my Dad decided to upgrade us to Soundforge 7.0b. This lets me save to MP3 fine... (although its still running through the evaluation MP3 saves - fingers crossed it will be OK when we register it after the 20 have been used up!). THANKS AGAIN - I'M VERY GRATEFUL TO THOSE WHO TOOK THE TIME TO REPLY TO ME. |

No need to wait, go ahead and register the MP3 plugin right away. |
