Every time that someone complains about 'Where is Acid 5?' or 'If Acid doesn't have X feature, I'm moving to another platform!' I have to sit back and laugh. This is really, really getting absurd.

I like my software as much as the next guy, and there are certain softwares that I swear by-- Acid, Vegas & After Effects, among many others-- to get my work done on a daily basis.

But an extra feature in Acid probably isn't going to make me more money than I'm making now. If you're banking on the fact that it is going to do so for you, that's either laziness or lack of talent... or both.

I'll be first in line when Acid 5 is available, but until then, I'll make do with what's available now. And if that's not enough, then indeed, I'll move to another platform to get the job done, instead of posting childish threats or tirades.

David.

It's not enought to say that it's 64-bit ready. I'm not saying that it won't or that it shouldn't. The question is "why should it be 64-bit capable?"

I would much rather that Sony focus on designing a stable application with a lot of new great features rather than whether it can address a larger chunk of memory.

Just because an application can address 64-bits doesn't make it faster or better. Unless you're working with massively huge audio files recorded at a really high sample and bit rate (or floating point) it's not going to matter.

At this point 64-bit is market hype that distracts software engineers and end-users from the real goal: stability. It's like some holy grail that the industry has dangled in front of us. I'm not saying that we should not improve our software ... but simply making it 64-bit capable is not much of an "improvement" with how audio (and most video) files are currently handled.

128 bit

what the heck == can anyone one resolve audible information above 24 bit?

also high definition audio has taken a back seat to this whole portable audio revolution

Audio bit depth and program code are not the same thing

The more you have bits, the less you need talent !?

As if music quality was a question of bits... Ah ah ah ah !

In the early sixties, people did not care about bits but created unforgettable songs ! But what about those anonymous little clips made with noisy loops ?

Think a BIT more about that !

Sorry I was talking about windows 64Bit for AMD and P4 64bit processors.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx

Adding support for this would give a big up in the market since no one else is creating 64-Bit software.

See my post above. This is exactly what I was referring to.

That is a good comment, but for those of us who spend good money on top of the line hardware, that requires a 64-bit Operating System to use its full potential, it would be great to have the support, “The performance would be a lot greater”. Allot of people use acid for more then just loops, and ram is the most important hardware used by acid, to run smooth.

Acid5 could be even better if it is ready for the next generation of hardware & OS, but your right about them needing to concentrate on what they have now. “mabe Acid5b ;-)”

It should not be so difficult to add support for it, anyways… My opinion is, when it comes down to it, if some one makes a 64-Bit program for music or etcetera and I the consumer use a 64-bit OS, would probably most likely buy it. Because what was the point of me buying a 64-bit processor if I cannot use it.

So that my explanation of why it would be in the best interest for Sony to conceder adding support for 64-bit OS and for other OS like Linux and OSX”Mac”.

It takes money to make money ;-)… “mabe I should work for sony LoL”

Hardware has always been very far ahead of software. It could be years before there is a lot of software support for 64 bit chips.

Heck, i still use a lot of 8 bit software on my Intel P4 system and get paid for using it. It runs about 200 times faster than it used to run on my old 20MHz 386 system, and it still does what i need to do.

zendar, you're joking right? Let's get the midi working in Acid first before we bitch about new features.

kbruff,

The higher the bit rate, the better the sound. You're thinking about sample rate. I don't know ANYONE who can honestly tell me that they can audibly tell the difference between 44.1 KHz and 96 KHz. With bit rates, basically the more bits in a waveform, the better reproduction of it.

OR...

You take the time to make it as pristine as possible...96/24...is sings off of your walls...it's so beautiful, you want to cry...

..and you DO when your client pops it into their $39.95 boom box...
