Subject:Assemble in Acid + Mix in Vegas ?

I'll be working on a big project.

Here is how I plan to work:

- Record and edit MIDI files with Acid
- Play those MIDI files with a VSTi soundfont player and record loops (render to new track)
- Arrange the loops to make a complete song in Acid
- Record vocals in Acid

My question is:

Should I do the final mix in Acid
- or -
Should I render individual tracks in wave format and do the final mix in Vegas ?

Are there any good reasons to choose any of these solutions ?

With your steps you could just mix in Acid, but Vegas probably would be better because there's more routing options as far as bus to bus routing capabilities, but other than that Vegas and Acid are very similar in there mixing.

Here's how I do it and why:
ACID:
- Record and edit MIDI files with Acid
- Play those MIDI files with a VSTi soundfont player and record loops (render to new track)
- Arrange the loops to make a complete song in Acid
- Save tracks in Acid as individual .Wav files

VEGAS:
-Import WAV files as seperate tracks in Vegas
- Record vocals in Vegas

Vegas is much more powerful for doing live tracking like vocals due to it's editing capabilities over Acid, plus multiple inputs for recording more than one singer at a time, input monitoring and also it's punch-in capabilities and further capabilities of using the trimmer window if you decide you like a certain section from a previous take and the ability to select multiple takes layered on top of each other. Not to mention that you don't have that annoying record Window popping up in front of you like Acid does.

-Mix in Vegas (no need to go back to Acid, everythings already assembled at this point)

If you later deside to add additional loops, you could either use the Acid loop capabilities in Vegas or go back to the original Acid project create the new loop, solo the track and render it as a seperate wave to import into Vegas.

Red

To add to what Red said, ACID's employs its timestretching abilities on Loop and Beatmapped digital audio track types unless you change the track type to One-shot. Vegas takes a "what you hear is what you get" approach for the most part since its a true multitracker.
