For kicks, I checked the vegas video post count.......23000+.
Vegas Audio 2300 Something.

Feels like this is the red-headed step child area of the forum.

No wonder the old "wish list for V5 or whatever" resulted in not much new on the audio side.

Now, I have to admit that I use SX for most projects these days, but I much prefer Vegas for sheer ease of use and stability (V3c). Please combine Midi, Folders, bus to fx routing in the next release. I'd prefer to use 1 app (Vegas) for all productions.

The video forum includes the posts of what was a combined audio and video forum. They were split some time in 2002 I think.

Yes, the older combined posts account for a lot of the difference. But I also agree with adowrx in his "redheaded stepchild" comment. Nobody can dispute that Vegas is marketed more aggressively for its video features than for its audio. Oh well. . .

It's simple, think numbers. How many regular folks need a multi-track audio app. or DAW compared to regular folks that have cam-corders, digital cams etc.

The numbers obviously are massively lopsided and unfortunately for those of us that are AE's, or musicians are a fact of life.

Sales and marketing is what it's all about for any company.

"those vidiots pay for Vegas to develop for us, so rejoice"

Great Point!

Check out the review in the October issue of Pro Audio Review....Mostly positive..yet echoing a lot of the sentiment expressed here.

"....I realized the program's true strength: V5 is not just a high-powered video editing system with a decent amount of audio functionality. It is the video editing software for audio engineers interested in bridging the gap between the two disciplines".

Also, "As an audio-only application, Vegas does not opereate at the level of, say, Digidesign Pro Tools or Steinberg Nuendo, though Vegas has improved immensely over the last several versions...........it still lacks several functions considered essentioal by many in order to use Vegas as a standalone audio workstation. For instance, it has no MIDI, VST or VSTi/Dxi instrument support (though some VST plug-ins will work with in Vegas with a VST-to-DX wrapper), no track grouping to speak of, nor does it have the capacity for multiple tempos/time signatures acroos the length of a project-just a global tempo and signature setting".

The author, Stephen Murphy, also had many good things to say V5. Let's hope with the other audio packages exploding onto the scene with hi-regard, that Sony will add more functionality on the audio side of things.

SF take notice...who's ben saying this since version 1 ? :)

of course if that reviewer wasnt just blabbing crap he heard from a friend of a friend and actually tried the program "as a standalone audio workstation", he would have been foremost complaining about the input monitoring setup, so we gotta take that review with a grain of salt

Are you the same guy that works on all those hardware impulses?
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/14/2004, 10:02 AM
that would be me :)

Did you catch the new IUD impulses?

Yes, I epecially liked what some of them did to my guitar tracks, taking the edge off of them - alot better then the EQ plugs I have for sure! I did try a few on the 2mix as well with pretty good results. I have real API pres and think they were well represented from my initial trials, I might later do some more indepth comparisons.. you did an awesome job on these! Thanks

Im glad you liked them :)

Looks like voxengo's newest version of pristine spce has been updated to make using these a little better
