Subject:Latency driving me nuts!

Okay, I've been back and forth trying to figure this out and my head hurts now. I am running ACID 4.0 Pro on a P4 2.8 ghz 480 mb ram. I am using a SBLive! 5.1 sound card. I am trying to use VSTs in both Acid and Cubase and I get these probelms in Acid:

a) 1 second delay after I strike a key on keyboard and it registers on screen/headphones. I have enabled realtime MIDI and I don't know why it won't work.

b) when I try to play the VST "The Grand" (piano) it only registers a note or two and it plays out choppy and misses quite a few notes.

Whats going on? Is my sound card crap? Do I need to get a new one. I have been shelling out hundreds of dollars just to record my silly piano!

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Faye

Thanks for clarifying the issue, which sound card would you suggest I upgrade to?

Thanks again,

Faye

Search the forums. This has been asked a million times. There are many good choices. Look to M-Audio, Echo, RME, Lynx etc etc.

Lower you latency/buffer settings.

In addition to what everyone's said, you might want to try recording and playback at 16-bit/48 kHz (if you have settings different than this), as this is what the Live does internally. It may be too much for the Live to handle to do conversion on the fly.
