I'm coming across this weird problem with certain mp3 files. Before I had no problem opening any mp3 files in acid or Soundforge and then just recently certain mp3s are giving me these error codes or somtimes it just shuts down as soon as i click on the file.
However, Cool Edit (Adobe Audition) does open the mp3 with no problems at all.

Any thoughts or suggestions????

Thanks in advance

These .MP3 files don't happen to be an entire album do they? Do they have a name that contains the letters "_ALBW"? If any of the above is true, then I can guide you in the right direction to fix this.

Sup Rednoll, thanks for trying to help a brotha out. The mp3 files are not part of an album and doesn't contain those letters that you said in the file.

Any other suggestions or tips?

It sounds like maybe your .MP3 plugin is expired and needs to be registered. Open a .Wav file and select "Save as .MP3", Don't save the file, just click on the "About" button. If your .MP3 plugin isn't registered it will show that it's "expired". If it's expired then click on the register button and follow the steps.

Try this. I'm thinking that maybe the MP3 plugin got corrupted since you're seeing the same thing in Acid and Sound Forge and they share this file. I'm not exactly sure where on your system this file got installed too, so do this.

1. Make sure none of the Sony apps are running
2. Goto the Windows start button and click on "Search>For Files or Folders"
3. Do a search on the file "mp3plug.dll". Delete this file, or if you want to be extra cautious, then just rename it to "mp3plug.xxx"
4. Now reinstall Sound Forge if you're running v7.0 or Acid 4.0 if you're running an older version of Sound Forge....which ever is the latest release, therefore having the latest MP3 shared plugin version.

This should put a new mp3 plugin DLL for the one you deleted. See if that fixes your problems.
