If I understand correctly, vst plugins can be installed and operated on SF5 providing they are hosted through a vst wrapper? Does this mean I can purchase and install these as plugins found in direct-x drop down? Would these vst plugins require another host program??

Can vst plugins can be installed and operated on SF5 providing they are hosted through a vst wrapper?
Yes.. but they will not appear in the DX dropdown, only the Vst wrapper is available, then after selecting the wrapper, you must "browse" for the VST *.dll files. (which are usually hidden as system files)
It is my experience that some of the visual gaphics, ie; meters, ect., do not function correctly or at all with vst wrappers.
No other host program is needed except SF and the wrapper.

For instance, Cakewalk VST adapter works fine if you want to use a VST effect directly.
When "registered" to Cakewalk VST adapter, all VST plugins appear as if they were directX.

Addendum: My experience has been with the Spin Audio VST wrapper.

Djipy, So what your saying is: with the Cakewalk wrapper all the VST plugs willl operate and appear just like DX plug-ins on a DX only supported program like SF? Is this correct?

Let me add something here,
With the Cakewalk wrapper, you get in the drop-down DX plug-in menu a VST designation, that opens another drop-down submenu with all the VST plugins. It is just like the Waves plugs, you put the cursor over Waves and it opens another sumenu with all the Waves plugins...

Yes, I mean that with Cakewalk VST adapter, you do not need to browse for loading the plugin itself, like you do with a classic VST wrapper.
In Soundforge, the VST plugins behave like native directX ones, just click on the plugin and it loads.
You can organize your "adapted" VST plugins in subforders.

In other words: two options about presets appear on the plugin window. That means that the VST plugin is actually wrapped in a directX window; the difference is : Cakewalk VST adapter loads the plugin automatically.

You do not need to have a Cakewalk product installed : the VST adapter works as a standalone application.
