Anyone care to guess why when I reinstall my MAudio Delta 44 device and drivers it works, but when I go to their site, update the latest drivers that I get the following message when I try to launch the Delta Control Panel:

"Driver version is older than expected! Please install the latest driver"

I'm running this on my Win 98SE setup, and had the same issue last time I did a fdisk/clean reinstall. I wound up just reloading the driver from the old installation disk, but there's got to be something I'm doing wrong. This is driving my nuckin' futs!!

Did you uninstall the previous driver before attempting to install the latest one?
Sorry if it's basic...you didn't mention doing it.

"Did you uninstall the previous driver before attempting to install the latest one?"

uhhh, no actually I installed from the disk and then went to site and did the update. I assumed it would overwrite the older version. I thought about that this a.m. with a clearer head, but haven't actually tried it yet. I'm hoping there is a uninstall feature for a clean uninstall.

Thanks, Mario for venturing a simple solution.

M-Audio drivers are notorius for being buggy, difficult to install and their lame tech support is an exercise in futility. I hope the Avid accquistion helps. That said,.remove all old sound card drivers and those not being used or disable any others in the device manager. M-audio drivers have an issue with the sound mapper. Shut down all applications before installing the latest driver. Some have had luck installing in the Safe mode.
Good luck.

Uninstalled the old drivers, deleted the device from device manager, went to site and downloaded new driver, rebooted, found new device, loaded new driver then launched Sound Forge. Playback in SF worked, but no wav sounds from Windows. Went to Vegas, opened up a file-no audio. Tried every combination in "routing" and Audio control panel, still no audio playback. Uninstalled new driver, etc., reinstalled old - Vegas and SF works...Man, this blows.

End result, staying with old driver...until I can get an Echo Layla or something not made by MAudio...

This sounds like a wise move to me. I simply refuse to support a company that will not address a long standing issue like this (this has been going on for years). There's plenty of other choices and Echo's cards have proven to work flawlessly with SoFo/Sony apps.

I still use an M-Audio card, but will replace it when I next have to change operating systems or hardware. I finally got a driver that works from the their Germany site. (This was a couple of years ago, now) You'll neeed to read a bit of German, though.

I've basically had nagging problems with M-Audio's Delta drivers too, especially when using 24-bit in Sound Forge. I have to jump through hoops to get them to work properly. I've had no such problems with my Echo MiaMIDI.

larryo: Always uninstall your previous drivers before installing new ones.

So far so good with my new Firewire 410 (knock on particle board).
Very happy with my purchase. HOWEVER, if I'd known Echo was coming out with the Gina3G just a couple months after I bought the 410, I'd have waited. I'm kinda upset I didn't think to contact them before buying the 410.
But, like I said, so far so good with the 410.

"Always uninstall your previous drivers before installing new ones"

lesson learned. btw - I have not had many probs with the original driver, including 24 bit sound forge files. Most issues I've attributed to my system (win 98se/P3/1 gig/2-7200 rpm WD drives, dma enabled/1 gig of ram with the [vache] commands in the sys init to recognize more than 512mg ram/an old vid card just replaced/vegas 2.0/ sf 5.0, etc.). I just assumed a new driver would have workable enhancements...the "about" page graphics looked nice on the new download.

Sadly, I must now choose my next purchases based on my limited budget. Win xp, V5, SF7, orrr...Echo Layla. I finally installed a TDK CDR-W/DVD-R,so at least thats good to go with an upgraded system. But all my sony apps with the exception of CD Architect are real old. Then, I think it wouldn't be sensible to load xp and updated sony apps into a P3 box based on what I'm reading in these posts about V5...damn, this gets expensive...

Yeah its a dilimma but if you won't be needing to run huge track counts and lots of plugs you should be fine. You can always work with applying some non-real time efx and do submixes along the way to keep everything reasonable. I did this with a P3 450 (using Vegas 2) and frankly it I think it was helpful to be forced to commit to some things.
