Check out posts by a guy named Cliff over at the Logic forums. I think he let one slip...
http://community.sonikmatter.com/emagic/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=27;t=002836

6 posts down the page he says "ProBand will be out as soon as Sony completes it sale of its SonicFoundy assets to Apple"
go to link to see more

second page of thread, again, 6 posts down, Clif posts in response to someone questioning the "rumor",
"Hmmm...I thought this was public"...

Much more to be read in the full messages. What r your thoughts! He sounded pretty genuine, and is a well know guy in the industry! could this be the reason we haven't seen Acid 5?

I'm pretty sure that is not the case :-)

To make sure this is totally clear...

That post is just a ridiculous rumor and entirely false. End of story.

Thanks,
Joel

If you look at the various threads you'll see the lack of "logic" in apple purchasing acid. It would not benefit them.

not to mention it's been highly rumored that former members of the acid development team are at apple.

which is the reason soundtrack basically looks like acid pro 3.0 with a aqua GUI.

i will say logic 7 looks really nice but for me it's about 2-3 years too late.

if only apple had put this stuff out before i switched to a PC, before a bought my UAD-1 card, and before a started using acid pro.

they were too busy jerking all the audio guys on the os 9 to os x migration.

i guess this is their way of making up for it.

i'll never go back now.

i have too much invested in a system that works well.

“According to AppleInsider, Apple filed for a trademark on the name 'ProBand' suggesting a professional-end version of GarageBand, currently an iApp bundled with iLife 04. The underpinnings of GarageBand and Logic are fairly similar, and begs the question if Apple is planning to rebadge Logic as ProBand, anApple-branded pro audio app. According to the filing, Apple describes ProBand as "Computer Software."”

"not to mention it's been highly rumored that former members of the acid development team are at apple. "

It was also highly rumoured that there were weapons of mass destruction in Irak, and look how that turned out.
Oh wait no, those weren't rumours...they were *facts*. ;-)

myst, I knew if the prez debates were on someone would get all political...

so i did a google search and found this on creativemac.com

"So now it's time for me to rave about Soundtrack, a music composition tool that lets even non-musicians create custom tunes. I think it's better than any other loop-based sequencer I've seen. It reminds me of Sonic Foundry's Acid Music, except much smarter, easier to use and more musical. And, it comes with a powerful search engine strapped onto it that lets you search for loops by instrument, mood and tempo. This results in lots of options -- letting you put together great-sounding tunes with your video sitting right there, showing you where the big shot changes are. It's simply brilliant. I could goof around with this all day. I also encountered a tidbit of information about the Soundtrack development team that explained at least some of its similarity to Acid Music: One of Acid's key developers, Chris Moulious, left Sonic Foundry and joined Apple a couple of years ago. His influence is noticeable in this great now companion application to Final Cut Pro 4."

Now please get off my nutz.

Coolout, I quoted that part to comment on the "highly rumoured". I'd also heard that an Acid rep had gone to Apple awhile back.
Just putting into evidence how one shouldn't really go by rumours alone.

Perhaps I should have just quoted... "not to mention it's been highly rumored that..."

I'll get off your nutz now so you can breathe freely again! Or should I said, breed freely again? :-)

"I could goof around with this all day."

This statement pretty much underscores the point (and says a lot about the reviewer IMO). A nice toy but certainly not a professional app.

Hey Mario,

you should tell the 5000 dead Kurdish men, women and children who were gassed by Sadaam that there were no WMD's only rumors.........and they are only "rumored to be dead"

not trying to make this a political thread, but it was such a ridiculous comment, I could not resist.

You're right, it won't become a political thread.

This is just nuts.

Sony selling out to Apple? Apple selling the only division that is giving it any national attention?

And someone believed it.

Sorry if you took me seriously Pazzap -- I know nothing of inside info. I make it a point not to know anything. The only time I post anything that sounds like insider info, I *HOPE* it sounds so freekin' crazy that no one would believe it. C'mon -- Apple selling iTunes to Sony? Why?

I've only used Acid a few times -- I bought one of the light packages w/libraries a few years ago when GuitarCenter was selling them off for $3 to make room for the new upgrades. I think I picked up the Acid Latin for that price (Techno and Hiphop were already sold out). It was good software, but I'm not a loop player -- I can't do it and I respect folks that can play to loops. My timing is so off, I *NEED* to play / compose to my own stuff :-) But it was great software and if I were on a PC more often, I'd probably pick it up.

For the record, GarageBand doesn't come anywhere near what Acid does -- I've got a few friends that use this software solely.

Yeah, "not trying to make this a political thread" but...

It was the West - chiefly US and UK - who sold them to Iraq and _after_
Iraq gassed the Kurds, the US stifled any meaningful condemnation of
the atrocity in the United Nations...then continued to arm, support &
finance Saddam until he decided he was going to be his own dictator -
not just another US puppet (one of many) and invade Kuwait - only
_then_ did the US/UK start wailing about what a terrible guy Saddam is.

Here's a video clip, at the National Security Archive, of Donald Rumsfeld
shaking hands with Saddam:
http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/
Show that to the Kurds too...

Rumsfeld is also a respected D&B DJ using Acid (with Waves plug-ins)
and can be seen many a Saturday night shocking and aweing his way
through barnstorming mash-ups at Fabric. Rumsfeld's friend, former CIA
agent and Iraq's Prime-Mister, Iyad Allawi, says of the buyout rumours:
"The hearts and minds of Baghdad were immediately one over by
Halliburton's generosity and fair-play. End-users should welcome any
American corporation that wants to liberate their creativity."
