Hey Red - the feature request you made was taken seriously by... Steinberg, the new cubase sx3 supports: "External FX Plugins allow for direct integration of external hardware effects processors into the VST audio mixer. Use your favorite outboard gear just like plugins – including automatic delay compensation" Nice - huh. Hopefully such a feature will be supported by future versions of Sony audio production tools. |

Sony/Sofo usually take my suggestions seriously, it just usually takes them 2 to 3 versions before they ever get implemented. I suggested a software VU meter when I was using Sound Forge v4.5. Hey look it finally appeared in Sound Forge v7.0!!!! I suggested external hardware control support for Vegas while using Vegas v2.0....Here it is in Vegas 5.0!!! Some of my suggestions like the VU meter usually takes me to educate the value of the feature to other users in these forums, then all of a sudden there's 10 other users in these forums saying, "hey I need a VU meter!!!" You got me thinking though, Steinberg did add a VU meter back in Wavelab 3 way before Sonic Foundry.......Maybe they're visting this forum and taking my ideas? Damn it, the Germans are at it again. :-) |

It would be very wise of Steinberg to totally understand the pros and cons of comparable tools, furthermore so much of what individuals ask for, in Sony support forums is being included in Steinberg apps. Sony as an entity is an interesting organization; they create incredible tools and then some how drop them and create new ones to meet a myriad of objectives. I remain optimistic that Sony will take its new windows driven audio / video production tools to unique levels. -- KAB |

Yeah there have been several painfully obvious features that I've suggested for over ten years now that are just beginning to show up. Nothing special in your situation Red - those users you had to educate are more then likely the hobbyists that Sony/Sofo have been trying to cater to, so good for you in expanding their client-base! As for the VU meters, I just use my nicely worn, trusty, 30-year-old 'external' ones like most of my engineer friends do. And is the new Cubase feature really all that new to the audio world? I've been doing similar such things in Logic since the beginning ... (confused) Warm, moist, regards :) |

OH yeah... Another feature that I have been suggesting is the ability to apply shades to regions, this would improve the ability to see where tracks are located, as well as key areas. This feature has been added to SX3. Another feature that I have mentioned like 2 dozen times to feature suggestion is a dedicated notepad per track, so that an operator could input information, and recall it on a per file basis, this too has been added to SX3. I am justing hoping that some of these features will be implemented in an already great set of tools. - KB |

KB, For your notepad idea, have you tried the AnalogX DX notepad. I haven't used it, but I guess it's basically a DX plugin, which is a notepad for writing notes as you suggested. So in Sound Forge or Vegas, you could just insert this within the track plugin chainer. Get it here, free. http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio.htm |
