I spoke to a SonyFoundy guy on the registration line yesterday (had to get Vegas on my new computer). Before I hung up, I asked him what the progress report on Acid 5 was. Without hesitation (and you could hear a smile coming across his face), he told me it was HOT; as for a release date, of course he was not allowed to say when it would be...but I persisted, and he told me don't be surprised to see it around Christmas time. I then asked him if it was aimed at the Live users, and he claimed not to be familiar with Live, but was quick to tell me again just how amazing Acid 5 is, and how we're all going to love it. Can't wait to see this one! Tommy |

this sounds all good! except the comment about sonar 4 being 'hot'. i dunno what it is. that program just feels 'barely operable' to me... i cut a record on CW9 once... it was a nightmare. i get the same vibes from sonar -- i.e. very little has changed. |

As I've said before, ACID and Live are like two totally different animals to me. They both have similar looping functions (though ACID is still way more suited for looping, IMHO), but that's where it really ends and the differences begin. Well said, mD... You find a piece of software you like and you stick with it. After a few years, you know it inside out and then, it doesn't really matter what software you're using, you can sound just as good with some experience in ACID as you can in Cubase, Logic, Sonar, blah... Anyone out there like Squarepusher? If you don't know who he is, he ceates some of the most technical and "clever" sounding music out there... What does he use? A tracker... real old school stuff, but he's used it for years and there's nothing he can't do with it now, and besides, a tracker designed to work on an old 486 isn't likely to ever crash no matter what you throw at it on a modern pc. My take on all this is that the longer you spend playing with different software, the longer it'll take you to be any good with any of it. There's no point saying about all the great things you can do with these other wares unless you can actually do all these great things to some benefit. Keep it simple... The real truth behind geatness is practice. Do you think that great bands just go out there and play live without practicing? Of course they don't. Many spend months rehearsing. Before they can get to that stage, they must spend years practicing their instruments. Nobody can pick up a guitar for the first time and play it like an experienced guitarist. Same goes for wares... nowadays, there's so much in the way of software and plugins that many people surround themselves with far too many distractions without actually learning what any of it actually does. Nuff said. BFB. |

mD, I can't believe you overlooked a very obvious simul...simal...simyl.. (where they're like each other thingy). They both have 4 letters in their names. Sorry... Mario |

well said Big Faced Boy ! (and I do know Squarepusher) BTW: stability for acid 4 is for shit. Is this going to be the new feature in 5? Shouldn't Sony kiss me first? |

If we're lucky they might have thrown away v4 and started again to build features on v3 |

Post your Acid 4.0 bugs that you can duplicate in as much detail as you can. Make sure they don' t happen in 5.0 |
