Hi Guys. I understand this probably isn't the place for something like ths but I though you guys would be of great help.

I'm currently working on a series of High School Graduation Video Montages (images, old footage-to be played at graduation ceremony), and I wanted to put together a list of music that may be appropriate for this presentation.

I understand the royalty issues but some on else is going to work them out.

Thanks guys. fixler.

Appropriateness depends on the demographics of the school. Kids in an inner-city school might want very different music than kids from more rural school but here goes:

With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker
Time Of Your Life - Green Day
Here’s To The Night - Eve 6
I Will Remember You - Sarah McLachlan
Graduation - Vitamin C

If you get permission to use any of these songs I would love to hear from you. I’m thinking of doing the same thing myself. I currently compose my own music for my video yearbooks but the kids want the “real thing” and don’t understand that it’s illegal to use these songs without permission (and getting permission is not easy when the rights are spread across 5-6 publishers) Good luck!

I think Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance, and Brahms' Academic Festival Overture are public domain. Other public domain works that might work are Verdi's Grand March from Aida, and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.

might not be entirely relevant since graduate's ages vary, but Alice Cooper's 'Eighteen' always worked pretty good for me...

...bunch of my friends couldn't seem to get enough of Queen's 'We are the Champions', either...

...just some very quick ideas from someone who tries to avoid all sense of sentimentality about such things.

and btw I don't think the rights issues ever stopped anybody at my school, at least for in-house (in-school) usage. if you are going to be distributing (i.e. SELLING) copies of this, you might want to worry. otherwise, I say f'k em.
