i'm sick of looking at these things in my media folders. i realize they serve a useful purpose. i don't want to eliminate them -- just hide them. i'd really prefer not to have to do it manually! anyone got any ideas? ...before I dive into writing a windows service to automatically hide them... |

Sorry but I don't get this gripe. You have options if they bother you. Use search and enter *.sfk and delete them all. If you have a fast PC then reconstructing the wave graphics will be barely noticeable. If you are in a folder you can sort by File Type and they will be grouped away from the audio files. I'm a neat nick and they don't bother me but if Sony would incorporate a path to a common folder instead of their local approach it would be better though if for nothing else to eliminate the bitching. The .SFK files are not associated with a program....unless you set them up in Windows to be associated with a program. You should be able to tell this just by looking at the file and see if there is an icon on the file. Therefore, in windows there is an option to "hide unknown file types." So if a file like .SFK is not associated with a particular program, then checking this option in Windows will make them hidden. Also, there is an option in the preferences that will allow Sound Forge to delete temporary meta data files when closed, if you would like them to be deleted when Sound Forge closes, then check this option. |

If their interspersal with the wavs is too complicated for you to handle , try sorting you file windows by file 'Type' rather than 'Name'. geoff |

despite the slant towards a dismissive attitude regarding this issue, I appreciate everyone's input. I have very strong theories about involvement of high-tech tools in creative pursuits: namely -- that when I am in the middle of trying to let the muse flow is not the time to be dicking around with a bunch of Windows explorer administrative BS. ------ MJ - well bro, that's what i'm doing here -- looking for options. maybe you *don't* get it... i have an extremely large sound library with tons of manipulation (sorting, sifting, copying, versioning, modifying, etc.) going on. i don't want to deal with sorting out the sfks when doing so. manual find/delete of these files is what I do now. it's tedious, and I'm looking to eliminate that complication. now you get it. (I hope.) sounds to me like you're a 'neat nick in training'... ;-) re: sorting by file type -- yep that's great for the times when I don't already plan to use some *other* DESIRED sort method, such as create date, modified date, comments, bitrate, etc. (i.e. never) ------ Red - I don't use 'hide unknown file types' in Windows. I do software development on the same PC, so I run my box in full-on 'show me everything under the hood' geek mode. If there was a way in windows to specifically hide files of a given type, that would be the hot solution. That's really what I was hoping to find out here. Gonna take it to some windows tweakage forums I guess... I just thought the subject might have come up around here before... ------ geoff - yep it's 'too complicated for me to handle'. why don't u go polish your "Using Microsoft Windows 101" diploma and spare me your condescension? |

Snappy, From the sounds of it here's your solution. As I previously mentioned but didn't give the exact details. In Sound Forge goto OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>FILE. Enable, "Hide new temporary files" and Enable, "Delete temporary files on close". Hopefully these options should be pretty self explanatory in what they do. |

Snappy if you find a way to hide (or even automatically delete!) spacific files please post it up here. It would help alot, if not for sound forge (cause obviously the program supports the option to get rid of them) then for other programs like vegas that have no options or just the standard bull-shit files other programs create just to piss you off more. liike those damn macintosh pieces of shit that show up after a file transfer. I also like to have "show all hidden files" but if you find a solution either way, again, please post it!!! |
