Subject:Distortion in Sound Forge 7.0a

I e-mailed earlier about distortions in trying to record basic audio into Sound Forge. I'm using 24/96 audio from a RealTek audio driver that is loaded onto a new Asus PG51D motherboard. The sound is good from the speakers and applications play well. But when I try to record sound into Sound Forge the levels clip unmercifully and the sound is useless. I can turn the levels down to whispers and get a recording but that seems odd to me.

What's odder is that I loaded Total Recorder 4.5 on and was able to record sound from Real Player normally with no trouble at all. I realize TR loads its own driver but I'm wondering why there is distortion and such a high clipping range when trying to record into Sound Forge.

If anyone has suggestions or knowledge of the RealTek Audio driver and if that is the problem and if there are any workarounds, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,

the microphone boost in the volume properties might be checked, that alone could be the problem
