Subject:ACID keeps crashing @#$!*&

I've used Acid since 2.0 and never had a problem with the program crashing. Most of my friends thought i was nuts because Acid crashed constantly for them. I always assumed that was cuz they pirated their copies and I bought mine. The last few weeks ACID has been seriously pissing me off. It crashes every few minutes. And not just derails the program requiring me to open task manager and end program, but crashes in a way where the screen simply freezes and nothing happens, thus requiring a restart. I'm running windows XP pro, 1gb ram, new processor and mobo, etc. should be no problems on the hardware side. My only guess is that, after upgrading to Vegas 5 and installing the .NET framework (SONY WHY THE HELL DID YOU HAVE TO FORCE THAT CRAP ON US) required to run Vegas, something is going on with that that ACID doesn't like? ANy one else having issues with this?

The problem mainy occurs when I add DX plugins to a track while its playing, or hit the space bar twice quickly, or press play while its already playing. Ideas?

Questions: Which version of ACID are you using? 4.0? Using the latest version?

What are you using for hardware? Software installed?

my sound card is a sound blaster audigy. as for hardware, nothing else audio related and i haven't installed any new hardware in months.

software, i use acid 4.0f, nuendo2.1, reason2.5, vegas 4 and 5, photoshopcs, illustratorcs, ms office, etc.

i was messing with midi stuff in acid i don't know if that could be a problem. i've used 4.0 from the day it was released and never had more than an crash here and there, but now its like every 10 minutes.

It's a good possibility that the installation of ACID may be corrupted. (It can happen.) Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall?

Tried other (or updated) drivers for the Audigy and your video card?

I just started having the SAME problem. Here's the error report:

AppName: acid40.exe AppVer: 4.0.0.446 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217 Offset: 00019ecd

I've never had this problem until recently, and haven't changed my system at all.. I'm using Acid 4.0f build 446 on a WIn XP; AMD 3000 Barton Core; 1G RAM system. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure about dirtynbl, but I have not downloaded studio 5 (or any other product). This just started occuring in the last week or so. Was working well up until then.

I have ACID 4.0 and it shuts down quite frequently when I use the ASIO drivers for audio recording. I have to use them due to latency issues...

I get the same problem with Acid Pro 4, and it's very frustrating. The computer crashes, and sometimes makes repeated beeping sounds, until you are forced to exit. I only recently began recording Audio, and this is when it started for me. I have the Creative soundblaster Prodigy and I a phantom preamp. The computer for some reason tells me I need to record at 48,000 rather than 41,000 due to my soundcard, so I change this - and then recently it started crashing a lot. I attributed this to perhaps lack of memory but i don't think this is the case - it never was before I started recording Audio. I personaly think it's got something to do with recording Audio and the incompatibility with our Creative soundcards///

Just been reading other posts and the problem def. seems to be with creative soundcards, which are for games, etc. Everyone on these old posts suggests getting a pro-audio soundcard. i just bought one then.

The pro card is helpful, but I think there are work-arounds for the creative cards. Have you tried recording at 48kHz?

dirtnbl, I don't think MIDI is the problem. Have you tried reinstalling the software? Did that do it? Creative drivers?

I believe I've heard people say that creative and asio don't go well with acid. Do a search and see if that is right.

I do believe others have said Creative's ASIO drivers aren't that hot with ACID Pro. (ASIO drivers can be a fickle thing if they're not written correctly anyway.)

Did anyone try a complete uninstall and reinstall of ACID (especially in FrankLP's case)? Not positive if it will help, but it would help narrow down the problem.

I'll give the reinstall a try to see if that fixes it. More later.

Hey gang...unistalled and reinstalled ACID last night. So far no crashes. I'll try recording audio tonight just to be sure. FYI - I'm using Digidesign 001 Card and the ASIO driver.

Thanks.
