I know the answer is somewhere but I haven't found it, newbie that I am! I have a 20 min file ready to burn which was originally one side of an LP. The "rookie question" is how do I now create individual CD tracks from the five individual LP selections in the continuous 20 min file? Markers? CD Architect? Meditation and prayer? Thanks for help (and understanding!)

If there is no blank space between songs;

Place the cursor at the start of the audio in the file.

Press 'm' to insert a marker.

Press the spacebar to start playback.

Press 'm' again at the crossfade location to insert another marker. Repeat to the end.

Click Special > Regions List > Markers to Regions, when prompted click yes or OK.

In the Regions List window highlight a region click enter to edit name. Roxio supports CD-Text, Sound Forge does not nor does it support DAO. These names will appear as the song titles when burned with Roxio DAO.

Click tools > Extract Regions and save them to a folder and burn them all in your burning software using DAO (disk at once) to prevent spaces between tracks.

If you have blank space to eliminate between songs;

Press '[' at the start of the song.

Press spacebar to start playback.

Press ']' at the end.

Press 'r' to create region and name it.

Repeat to the end.

Fade heads and tails of each track

Click tools > Extract Regions and save them to a folder and burn them all in your burning software using DAO (disk at once).

If you have Nero, it can "read" markers and regions, so that would save you a step, but maybe not time since Nero's slow building waveforms.

>>Markers? CD Architect? Meditation and prayer? <<

Yes, CDA if you have it. Meditation and prayer hasn't influenced my software's capabilities but it has saved me from destroying some hardware on occasion. ;-)

This method works fine, but eats up a lot of time as you have to preview the file in real time. A quicker method is to mark regions visually by examining the wave form. In SF, this is pretty easy:

1. On the View menu, open the Regions List, and dock it in the workspace
2. Zoom out until you can see the entire first cut (probably 8,000 or 16,000:1)
3. Select the song with the mouse (precision not needed), and 'drop' your selection on the regions list. SF automatically adds region markers.
4. After all the songs are selected, go back to the beginning and fine tune the position of the region markers. Zoom in. In most cases you can set the marker extremely accurately with visual reference only for the beginning of the cut, but you'll probably have to listen to the end so as not to cut off the fade-out. You simply move the region markers with the mouse as is needed.
5. When done, "Extract regions"; that's it.

The whole process takes about 10 minutes, which means you can get the job done in half the time or better than a real-time preview.
