Subject:Render or Copy Audio ?

Hi, I am doing some vocals and have ended up with lots of small audio files that I would like to comp into one single vocal track. The easiest way to do this is to Render To New Track in ACID but i'm worried about losing quality especially if I do this a few times. As an alternative I could just copy and paste using an audio editor. Any advice or tips much appreciated Thanks Paulie |

I don't believe you lose any quality when you render digital files. If you start shifting sample/bit rates, you'll hear a difference. I would render the bits into one file without thinking twice about it. |

As long as you keep the bit-depth and sample rate consistent, there shouldn't be a problem with audio quality. Be sure you solo the tracks and mix them very close to unity (0.0 dB) before you bounce down. Worry about mixing the vocals with the rest of your project afterwards. If you set exactly at unity (0dB) and have no effects or mixing or pitch changes or anything else that modifies the signal, then ACID will merely copy the bits to the new file with no alteration at all. In this case it's basically acting as an audio editor while copying and pasting files. If your gain is off by even the slightest amount then the rendering process will have to recompute each sample value and artifacts and imperfections will begin to accumulate. |
