Sound Forge is a stereo editor, so the answer is no.

Vegas can output 5.1, either as individual WAVs or AC3 if you have the +DVD option.

Acid Pro can also do 5.1, with the optional AC3 plug-in pack.

Adobe Audition can convert stereo to 5.1? Really? Can you tell us which stereo to 5.1 decoding it uses? Adobe Audition can encode DTS surround? Are you sure about that? Point me to the features list that says that please.

Ok, I went there and read it. They are using the center channel extractor tool in audition. Most of this can be done using the channel converter in Sound Forge, the problem in Sound Forge is that there isn't any nice presets like in audition, so you have to know the math behind it, to know how to achieve the same thing. Alls they are doing is a simple Dolby Prologic I decoding of the file. This is not 5.1 surround. It does give you a surround feel by giving a strong center channel and ambience in the rear channels. This will all fall apart as soon as the source audio goes to mono. In most cases it will sound like your rear speakers are turning on and off when the audio switches from Stereo to Mono, like it often does in Movies. You would actually be better off getting a home surround receiver and playing your stereo source through it and selecting Dolby Prologic II playback, then just recording the individual outs of the receiver. Dolby Prologic II is a true surround decoder which adapts with the audio signal so you don't get the cutting in and out of the speakers. It also looks at the amplitude relationship of common audio signals in the left and right channels and steeres them properly. That is if something started in front of you and say flew behind you, there would be a gradual transistion from front to back. In the method they're using it will be infront of you then drastically shift behind you.

Audition is not doing the DTS encoding. They are using Surcode, which is an additional software purchase and it's not cheap.
