Here is the scenario...I am doing music collaborations. I lay the wav file out in Acid. I then lay down my midi part....sounds just like I want.
Then, I want to record my part and I do. but, the timing is off ever so slightly no matter how I line it up....What am I missing here? Thanks

Do you mean during recording of your MIDI track or after?

after. The midi track plays great to the collab. Then I record it using the audio button. It starts out fine, then starts to get out of synch...

there is a bug (record latency) with some asio drivers when you record midi in acid,,,the recorded notes are out of sync ,,meaning the recorded data is not exactly what you played ,,,were you using asio drivers? ,, I reverted back to using the wave drivers because of this issue,,,

Sounds like ACID is trying to time stretch your audio but I'm not sure.

Did you try recording audio without the "make new track follow project tempo" option? See if that helps.

Thanks for the responses I received. I am stillhaving issues. The midi track lines up great with the music.I thien record it using ACID. The audio track does not synch up with the midi track on playback. Specifically, tis a drum part and it is atad in front of the beat where as the midi track is locked right in. How do I get these to line up the same? Or, maybe I just can't record midi parts exact with this program.....

I read these posts a couple of times and I’m still not sure I understand what you are trying to do because you keep saying that you add your MIDI track and then record it. When you say “then record it” do you mean you are trying to render the MIDI track as an Audio track (i.e., wave file) and then when you bring it back into ACID it doesn’t line up?

Let me understand exactly what you are doing:

Step 1: Add some loops to ACID
Step 2: Record a MIDI track
Step 3: Render the MIDI track as an Audio file
Step 4: Insert the Audio file back into ACID

Is this what you’re doing? How are you rendering the MIDI track in step 3? Are you saving it to MP3 by any chance? That would certainly explain why the audio version of the MIDI track is off.

I am unable to render it as anything. That option is "whited out" I currently have the mdid track lined up by itslef and I can't render it as anything. Here is what I am doing specifacally
1. I lay an audio track(wav.) in ACID.
2. I play midi electronic drums to it.
3. I listen to playback and it sounds great.
4. I record the midi track using the audio option. It is out of synch. the drums sound just a tad off.
If I did not have to record the midi track that would be great. but, I want to add the midi track to the music and have to record it, no? I am unable to render it as anything....

Yep. If you’re not using a soft synth, then you have to record your MIDI files as Audio files. This is really strange. Did you do as Iacobus suggested and make sure that the "Make new track follow project tempo (Beatmapped track)" is NOT checked in the record dialog?

I assume you're using some external MIDI device and routing the audio output of that back into your sound card. It sounds like there is a latency issue somewhere. Is there a bit of silence at the beginning of the recording? Worse case you could trim the beginning of the wave file to get it back in sync but this is just a workaround. You’ve got to find out where the latency is happening during the recording. I’m out of ideas. (other than using a soft synth to avoid the whole issue)

Steve, which version of ACID do you have? ACID Pro 4.0? You might want to try adjusting digital audio latency.

If you're using ACID Pro, go to the Audio tab under Options>Preferences and uncheck the option, "Automatically detect and offset hardware recording latency," and adjust using the slider immediately below.

I've actually had this happen to me before, where the recorded digital audio sounds off (though it plays back OK). I want to say that it might have been due to my soundcard's drivers (which at the time was an M-Audio Audiophile 2496). I don't have a problem anymore which is probably due to newer drivers, but adjusting that option at the time did indeed help.

Thanks. Should I use Microsoft Mapper or the Asio drivers. when I record using direct audio, I have to use the ASIO drivers due to latenecy issues. But, they cause my machine to shut down all the time.....Will Microsoft Mapper be okay for this process?

steve,
Have you read all the posts refering to creative sound cards? I don't know the best way to handle it with your sound card.
