Subject:wav's won't play from external hard drive?

hello all,
i'm using my friends external hard drive and trying to preview or add wav files.

acid won't play the files and instead give me an error stating: "file cannot be opened"

i should mention that i'm noticing and addtion to each file name. Before each file name a period and underscore....such as:

._fratbass_131bpm

it won't recognize the files...and if i pull them to the desktop...it still doesn't work?!?!

any help would be appreciated,
