You might want to start with a better soundcard. I'm sure there will be numerous people along in just a moment to offer their advice.

I use an Aardvark Q10

Line out of your Audigy into Mackie
Mackie monitor out into powered speakers or
Mackie monitor out into amplifier into speakers.

And right, you do need a better soundcard.

Sounds like good advice to me!

I use the Control Room outputs on my mackie to go to my Powered Mackie Monitor speakers.
That way, the main playback volume can be up while speakers are turned down.

Then I use an INSERT cable "one click" into the Insert jacks on my L/R main outs to feed my headphone amps. When speakers are down, headphone volume is still active. Handy.

Can you please explain the INSERT cable "one click" procedure?

That refers to inserting the (probably) 1/4" plug half-way into the jack. There's a bit of a notch, thus the term "one-click". It's a handy way of making a component useful for more than just one thing. You may have seen this on channel inserts. My mixer(carvin 1602) has channel inserts that double as direct outs(pre-fader, pre-everything).
