To me, it isnt really any specific feature, but the way all features are accessed from the UI, for example:

1. One mouse tool operation. A week can go by without me even selecting anything besides the " Normal Edit Tool ". They did a great job on all the mouse tools, but only occaisionally will I want to use the envelope tool to copy an envelope, or the selection tool to select and area that I wouldnt just conveniently select with the normal edit tool

2. The "s" function. All apps can split, but not many apps if any can split using the same tool that selects, moves events, places the cursor, adjusts fades, adjusts envelopes, adjusts volume handles, and adjusts lengths of events. The "s" makes a GREAT de-esser too! Just click on the offending p, b, t, f, or s, and sometimes c or k, and whammo, no more plosive/sibilant

3. Bus to bus routing. This needs a little bit more work, but can really save your sanity on large mixes

4. Recording. The way vegas records the whole time you hit record, regardless of the punch area(unless you punch in on the fly), really can give you a lot of options and a big safety net

5. The envelope controls. You can always get back to zero or any other places, as the lines and points themselves TELL you their value as you move them. Seems like a simple thing but it is lost on many other apps.

6. Mouse wheel zoom

7. Editing, nothing comes close

8. A billion more things I forgot and just take for granted

Love the single track view/envelope mixing model.
The mouse wheel integration with CTRL/SHIFT for navigation is supreme.
"S" key splitting and auto event drag/cross-fade rocks.
Love the tight integration with Sound Forge (especially the Open in SF or Open Copy in SF options).
Easy to hide/show buss tracks.
Envelopes for nearly everything.

Everything (video also)!

I was a C/W user for years (and still am for MIDI), whenever have to go back to Sonar to do anything audio it's like pushing a rope.

Pipeline,

"The "s" makes a GREAT de-esser too! Just click on the offending p, b, t, f, or s, and sometimes c or k, and whammo, no more plosive/sibilant"

I take it you split right at the peak, with a brief audio auto-fade set as default? That sounds like a good technique....

I just recently began using this feature and not sure if many know of it..

Using the Mouse-Wheel to adjust settings! Yes, I find that it's much easier to close my eyes and just listen as I make changes, makes for a more organic experience. Especially useful for volume and panning, but works for any setting as far as I can tell, yes EQ sweeping/shuffling!!!. Hold down CTRL for fine-tuning.

..sorry if that was obvious or is actually in another program (I wouldn't know)

What I'd really like is a big jog-wheel (or knob) type input device that can override the mouse-wheel operation, that would be pretty cool and I wouldn't need, or want, a control surface...

Vegas is the most organic tool I use. And not just in terms of the interface that left us saying "somebody FINally got it right". I mean, that stuff all rocks. But Vegas for me is organic in that I use if for everything, everyday. I use it as much for video as audio, probably more. But where else can I work on my 5.1 soundtrack within the same project as my video??? AND - be stable and not drive me insane with lock ups and reboots. It just seems like it's growing into everything I do...video, audio, animation, cd layout, even image editing and rendering.

But to keep in step, the S function rocks. Kicks *ss over Alt-X...don't ask me why. And I too like to use the scroll wheel. I like to mix with the monitor off, which can be tricky for a daw without a control surface -) Choice in render format is a big plus I never hear anyone talk about. You can render your stuff in every format under the sun. Makes life so easy when you have to deal with varied clients. And I know this is the audio side, but for video the COlor Curves filter is the ultimate plug-in for the master bus...try it.

alright, done.

I thought I'd post this since it's a small trick I discovered.

When dragging any fader with the mouse, if you click both the left and right mouse button it will fine tune, no need for the keyboard.
