Dear all Acid usersl - this isn't a direct question about Acid, but might be of interest to some of you out there....

I've been using Acid Pro for recording my own compositions for a few years & have been looking at options for getting my material to people in the industry (and maybe even earning a bit of cash from my creations!!).

I've found a website 'Taxi.com' which claims to be the world's leading independent A&R specialist. They are a US company - basically, you sign up for $300 (£200) per year and they send you regular listings of material required by record/publishing companies for album deals, to pitch songs to artists or for placement on film/tv. You send in a track to Taxi and they give you a written assessment of your submission. They then forward the best material to the appropriate publisher/industry bod. Is anyone out there signed up to Taxi? If so, is it worthwhile? Is there an equivalent UK company?

Not sure if it would waste my time, but it seems to be one of the few ways to get 'solicited' material onto the desks of music biz execs. Any thoughts welcome....

Cheers
LD

I have never subscribed to Taxie, but I've considered it a number of times. They have a good reputation, but I don't know about their success rate.

Glad to see some discussion of this, even if it's not directly on target for ACID per se.

I am about to join. I researched it a lot and I'm convinced that the service is legitimate.

There's a ton of info on their site about everything they do. I recall the rate of submission
of songs to be about 5%. Thus, if I sent them 100 songs, I might get 5 sent along. I think
that's pretty good. The 'guy' at the other end is a DECISION MAKER, not a clown.

Also, it seems to be reasonably priced. $300 ($200 per year to renew) is fair, much like annual dues in any professional organization. And you get to attend their annual bash for free.

Now, the results are a crap shoot. You could land a number one hit, or never get anywhere. But that's true with anything, right?!

Good luck!

Rick

Hi Spinweb
I'm glad there's someone else out there with Taxi on their mind! It sounds like you're based in the US - it's a bit worrying for me being based in the UK cos if anything goes wrong it will be difficult for me to sort things out from here. Are you planning to sign up to use Broadjam to host your music? An extra $40 a year, but it looks pretty good & seems to save hassle with posting CDs etc. (Especially good for overseas members - not sure about the payment method though - it looks to me like you still have to send this by post, unless I'm missing something).
One great thing about Taxi is that you can submit anything that you write or co-write with other people under your membership - i.e. for one joining fee you can send in solo material and your own band's material (and anything else you've worked on) - this sounds like a good deal to me.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

Hi LD,
I have only looked quickly at the online submission option, but I'm sure I'll do it. Just the time it takes to deal with the "snail mail" method makes the online way look attractive, not to mention the supplies.

When I get my first Grammy, I'll be sure to post here about it.

Good luck!

:-)

Rick
