What's the word on M-Audio sound cards? Some people wear by them, but I've also heard their customer service is poor & they have some issues with certain software. Are the ACID People here happy with their M-Audio cards? What's a good specific model (with an external box for all my plugs, etc.) |

My Delta 44 from M-Audio works great with Acid4. With 11ms of Latency (don't try less in anycase, it's useless). Their product are great, and if ther technical support is poor, it's because few users have issues. Most of them don't know how to manage their PC. |

Started with a Delta 66...now have a Delta 1010 - probably the most solid piece of gear in my studio - rock solid 24x7. Works flawlessly with Acid. Cuzin B |

I haven't personally used the M-audio cards, some people have reported good success, others bad. M-audio, recently got purchased by Avid/Digidesign. I'm not sure where this purchase is headed. Is it because Digidesign needs a prosumer level of hardware market, or is it a move to elliminate the competition? I would hold off buying m-audio hardware to find out the direction, or you could be stuck with a piece of hardware with no technical support. I personally, have had much success with Echo products and all the Sony apps. www.echoaudio.com |

Continuing with what Red said, there have been discussions on these forums about how M-Audio's tech people haven't been very forthcoming to Sony/SF's crew in trying to track down problems, while Echo's people have been very accommodating. Given the choice between the two brands, I'd take Echo any day--can't wait for the Layla 3G to be available... |

"M-Audio's tech people haven't been very forthcoming to Sony/SF's crew in trying to track down problems" Yep, and I would expect that to be even more the case with Digidesign/Protools behind the steering wheel. Customer: "My M-audio sound card keeps causing Acid/Vegas to lock up and crash, and also causing clicks and pops in my recordings". Digi Techsupport: "It works fine with Protools, look into purchasing Protools for your audio needs." |

I have both an Echo MiaMIDI and an M-Audio Audiophile 2496. I like the MiaMIDI better. Its functions seem a bit more streamlined to me. According to M-Audio's Web site, everything is hunky-dory with Avid. (The arrangement sounds kinda like what happened when Sony Pictures Digital bought Sonic Foundry's apps.) We'll see. It seems odd to me they would even be interested. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

At first, it seemed like an odd match to me too, bu then if Pro Tools LE is the "Lite Edition" are we going to start seeing the extra lite edition bundled with M-Audio cards so that ProTools can become even more entrenched in the market. It seems like they've given up on the Pro Tools Free idea so maybe they'll rework it so it's tied to M-Audio hardware and harder to crack. It reminds me that when I bought my Audiophile 2496 it came with a watered down version of Logic. Maybe it'll be Pro Tools in the near future. Dave |
