I'm going to be splurging on a new computer set-up. Is bigger-faster-more drive space always better (with regard to ACID & other DAW type apps)? In other words: Are there any quirks that seem "High-End" but can pose problems? Can I always assume that a faster, more powerful microprosser is better? Are there any HARD DRIVE set-ups / brands etc that have unique problems with ACID & related aps? How can I find out about potential incompatibilities BEFORE I buy the computer? |

Faster is usually better. More ram is important. But a good soundcard is important too. I have an older system that keeps humming. I'm afraid to change something that still works. It is a 1.2 amd with 256 MB of ram running win 2000. I'm ready to upgrade when I need to. Oh yeah, music computer = no games... at least in my book. |

Try an Intel chipset (other than i7500) board for Dual Xeon w/533 FSB, add at least 1GB DDR and a 68 or 80 pin single channel SCSI card for your new SCSI drive array. |
