Hi, I have recorded a 10 minute guitar backing, and my file size is 111MB. Is there a way to compress this file, or to keep a file from growing this large in the first place? I have other 10 minute multi-track files (I didn't make them) that are only around 11MB in size. Thanks. |

CD quality audio is about 10MB/minute. Presumably you recorded your backing at 44,100Hz, 16 bit stereo. You could record it in mono instead and have a file half the size. I wouldn't recommend reducing the bit depth or the sampling rate though. Saving in PCA format will also reduce the file size by about half. Beware that PCA files will only open in SONY media software programs. The other files you have are probably saved as MP3 which often compresses about 10:1, or about 1MB/minute. |

Will converting these files to MP3 lessen their size? |

It's ideal to work using large files (usually this means higher quality). I'm not sure if you're having a disk space problem or you're worried about the final size. If it's the former then you should invest in a secondary hard drive (very cheap these days). If it's the latter there's no worries there, first of all the sum of the tracks do not equal the final rendered file size. You can render the (final) file to an mp3 to shrink it drastically. |

Yes, I was concerned with the final file size. Thank you very much for the answers. |
