Ah, feelin' like a kid again! Just started playing with my newly installed Reason-Adapted that came with my Firewire 410. Love it!! OK, so I can finally agree... Rewire's great! Damn! They're forecasting nice weather tomorrow. Oh well, at least it looks like rain for a couple days after that. :-) Mario |

Welcome to reason world! Have you checked Propellerheads for refills? Reason station? esoundz? Lots of free stuff out there, and with the variety of styles, you'll find stuff that works for you. |

the sonic refill is the best overall refill ive used in reason.it gives the nn-xt the soundset of a triton,jv-2080,motif. if anyone knows a good refill for bass please chime in. i want that sub bass sound on the mobb deep espically murder music. that sound is so deep yet it does not distort, and its still clean. |

Whoa! What's with the painfully slow download from Propellerhead's site?? +/- 2Kb/sec! I'M used to about 450Kb/sec. Guess I'll try some other time. Mario |

I would be interested in knowing what style of music you Reason owners are making with it and whether or not you primarily use audio loops or do MIDI recording. I looked at the Reason 2.5 demo and, like ACID, it has no pre-roll for recording (athough it does at least have a metronome) and I couldn’t find any way to edit the MIDI after the fact other than that tiny timeline. I also couldn’t find a way to use my VST instruments which leads me to believe it’s a closed system. That combined with the abundance of drum machines (which I never use) gave me the impression that Reason is geared towards a certain style of music but was not for recording rock songs (which is what I do in ACID). That’s why I’d like to understand what you guys use it for because I didn’t think it added anything I needed other than what ACID already provides. Just curious because it has a number of MIDI instruments but no good way to record and edit MIDI. (although I noticed it records in loop mode which is something I wish ACID would do) ~jr |

There is pre-roll in reason. At least what I would call pre-roll. |

How do you turn on pre-roll in Reason? I saw the button for metronome but I didn't see one for a count-in or pre-roll. Is it in a menu somewhere? ~jr |

There are a lot of refills and rx files floating around the internet. David |

--and I couldn’t find any way to edit the MIDI after the fact other than that tiny timeline. You can unlock the timeline & expand it. I LOVE that feature, especially with dual monitors! I've always found Reason's midi tools to be relatively top notch, to be perfectly honest! I also couldn’t find a way to use my VST instruments which leads me to believe it’s a closed system. That is correct, you can't open VSTi's in Reason... they've always maintained that it made the program more stable, if I remember correctly. But, that's why they created ReWire, I imagine, so it wouldn't be so closed. But then, I'm hardly unbiased here! I absolutely LOVE Reason. David. |

> But then, I'm hardly unbiased here! I absolutely LOVE Reason Then yours is the kind of answer I was looking for. I know that a lot of people love it and I’m trying to figure out what I was missing. I’ll go back and try figure out how to unlock the timeline and expand it. I’m keeping an open mind and really trying to understand how to best use it. Thanks for your reply, ~jr |

in reason theres a button at the top left of the seqeuncer page hit this button toggles back and forth between full project view and single track view. you can view pianoroll, drum editor,automation,etc.. (very important) at the top right corner of your reason project(right above the scroll bar for the rack) theres a button to undock the sequencer from the rack.this way you can resize the sequencer page i make hip hop,neosoul,rap/rock,and dabble in breakbeat electronica, film score, and trip hop. |

Bummer! Refills can't be added to the Adapted version I got. Actually, it's not a problem, what comes included is plenty for me. As far as how I use it? Well, give me a chance to start using it before I can give you feedback. However, any synth is great for creating original one-shots to add to projects. Reason is, to me anyways, a really great synth. The sounds are excellent quality. Mario |
