Is Acid really that good?

what do you mean "really that good". it's not as if the program used to make music defines the quality of the music. i'm willing to bet you've already heard popular songs on the radio that have been made in ACID, or partially so. :)

No radio, but it got me 3 Emmys. Does that count?

Who said you had to be THAT good to play on the radio?
Do yourself a favour...broaden your horizons. ;-)

Surely this question is just trolling ? The answering is quite obviously "yes", but swiftly followed by "so what" and "who cares".

I guess so...I´ve always thought artists like Madonna or Eminem uses >30000$ equipment, but I´m glad I can join the game too ;)

Definitely! Radio, TV, Film. Acid is the best.

TwilightLove, you're right. The bloated star acts always spend the big dollars because they're part of the machine. And sure that stuff will often do amazing things when operated by equally expensive pro engineers and producers. But then there's no reason why apps costing a couple of hundred dollars can't compete.

It's a bit like independent film producers competing with Hollywood: big bucks help, but it's talent that counts.

I agree. The quality of the sound coming out of acid is as good as any. Stretching and pitchshifting affects quality to some extent, and the enclosed effects are not up there with a lexicon reverb (nobody's is), but the sound of the app is there.

I think that many times we blame the app when the problem lies elsewhere. "If I only had x brand of software or a new update, I could make some good music."

if you're talking dsp power and plug-ins it might not cost you $30000 but i would suggest getting a UAD card and some waves plug-ins. that will take your sound to the next level provided you know what you're doing.

of course a decent mic, pre-amp, sound card, acoustics, and of course talent helps too.

When it comes to the biggest of the big, the internal sound quality of a prog like Acid isn't even an issue.

Most likely it is lined into a real-deal mixing console. The truly big records are mixed on consoles, not in the box.

Before I get jumped on, let me add, though, that a good song is a good song. I'm sure there have been plenty of breakouts that were mixed right in Acid/Pro Tools/Cubase/whatever. But when it comes to established top-shelf acts, that would only happen under unusual circumstances...

<<vdecent mic, pre-amp, sound card, acoustics, and of course talent helps too.>>

Anyone care to name decent mics and pre-amps that are reasonably priced?

:)

That could be a big list. M-Audio and focusrite come to mind. Shop the internet retailers and read reviews on the keyboard, eq, em, and mix web pages.

I love my AT 4050. Very good sounding mic. Somebody else give theres.
