Subject:Anybody mixing in 5.1?

Thought I'd give surround a try.
So I make a quick project in Acid. I set-up my panning, everything sounds fine. The sounds are all distincly coming from their assigned speaker.
I render as AC-3. Then I burn as a Music Compilation in DVD-Architect.
Now when I listen to it on my home theater, there is ALOT of bleed through. Even though the sounds are generally coming from the proper speaker, I can hear it in the others as well.
When I created the surround project, I placed the "cursor" at the speaker I wanted the sound to come from. The other speakers showed -inf. Should I have "greyed out" the other speaker icons?
When watching the meters, their wasn't any bleed-through.
Did I miss something, or is this caused by by home theater on playback.
A couple things I should mention...
My DVD player isn't rated for DVD-Audio.
If I don't select a preset ambience on my receiver when playing a DVD , it defaults to stereo. Is it possible that my receiver is doing this? Is it normal?
Kinda kills the effect if I want to have specific sounds from specific speakers, doesn't it?

Hmmm. Have you tried it out on another surround system (or several)? That way you can find out for sure if it's the hardware or the DVD that's causing it.

Hi MyST,

The problem could be related to your home theater set-up (depends on your system, of course.).

Also, it doesn't matter that your DVD player is not rated for DVD-Audio. At this time, DVD Architect does not support true DVD-Audio. What you are burning is a DVD Video without video... so you should not have problems with your DVD player.

To note, what happens if you play your DVD on your computer? Are the sounds still separated?

By the way, I'd like to talk with you off the forums. Would you mind checking if your email address you have registered with the forums is current?

Thanks,
Jenn

Hi Jenn.

I just updated my e-mail address. I don't want it made public, if you don't mind.

What you want to talk to me about, it isn't going to stress me out, is it? I'm on vacation. :-)
I really do think now that it's my Home Theater. I didn't save the project since it was just a trial run, but I do remember the meters acting "as they should". LF only, then RF only, then RR only, etc. So I think it is my HT.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks Mario,

It's nothing to worry about, just check your email.

No worries about the 'public' bit.

Thanks,
Jenn
