Hi am an acid 4.0 user but people are raving about abletron 4. What are the pros cons between the two.

The way i use acid: Heavy on midi, and Heavy on VSTi synths. I would like to use VST effects but acid 4 says no. also use audio loops sometimes too. Oh yeah can i record at 24/96 in Abletron? thanks!
oh yeah hurry up on acid 5 sony!!!

Go and download the demo. I just recently picked up 3.0.2 and upgraded to 3.0.4 and then paid the $49 (sans box) to upgrade to 4.0.1 and have just started playing around with it. The help tutorials are pretty interesting in themselves and do show how to do things. Nice touch. MIDI in the new version as well as all the other stuff you can do real-time with it is impressive. And my buddy's been using it since 1.0 and has been asking me about getting into Ableton Live for over a year now.... Check out reviews of the product, read forums, try the demo. The interface takes a little bit to get used to but it isn't *that* bad as people here make it out to (if you use a Mac you will get right into the interface and it runs on Mac too) and it is complex so it does have a learning curve (as do all products, including Acid). Just my opinion. We'll see what Acid 5.0 comes out with to see if I upgrade or not.

As I've always said, we're talking apples and oranges here. Live is a sequencing tool not unlike, say, SONAR. (But that's where the similarities end; see below.) So if MIDI and VSTi synths are your thing, Live may be up your alley.

ACID is first and foremost (and probably always will be) a looping tool.

As far as flexibility goes, ACID still has that in the bag, due to its wide range of support for file formats (like QuickTime, Windows Media, MP3, MPEG, etc.), in addition to being able to work with video. ACID is definitely a better fit for media production users in that regard, especially if one also uses Vegas and/or Sound Forge.

I think he means, "is it worth switching to Ableton", without the superfluous "r".

mD, I think we're talking oranges and slightly larger oranges that look a little different but taste quite similar.

Acid and Ableton are extraordinarily similar.
