Unusual DVDA2 navigation Problem

YesMaestro wrote on 7/27/2004, 11:51 AM
I have 4 mpg2 files I am putting on 1 dvd. 2 of them have multiple chapter points and the other 2 only have one. On the files with multiple chapters, after I get to the last chapter and click the next button, it goes to one of the previous chapters in the same file instead of going to the next file. I have the end action set to the first chapter of the next file but it wont go there.

How can I get it to go to the next file instead of going back to a previous chapter?

Thanks

Paul

Is it doing this only on your set-top player, or does it do this in DVDA's preview? Also, does it navigate correctly if you move near the end of the file, and then just let it play until the end of that file?

When you use multiple MPEG files, DVDA puts each in its own titleset. If you use the chapter advance button on the remote, which is usually used to go to the next chapter, on most DVD players, this will also advance to the next chapter. However, if you read this thread from my post onward:

Chapter advance problems

you will find that the order in which the chapter advance button navigates through titlesets cannot be controlled in DVDA. I view this as a bug that needs to be fixed, and hopefully Sony will do that, preferably in an interim release.

Let me know if this is the same problem that you are having.

My workaround is to first insert a "Music Compilation," and then insert the MPEG files into that compilation. The audio must be identical for each MPEG file (e.g., AC-3 stereo at the same bitrate) for this to work. One advantage of putting the MPEG files into a Music Compilation is that the fast forward and reverse will now work across the entire DVD, not just within each MPEG file/titleset.

Depending on the DVD player, the next button has different behavior when on the last chapter of title: some do the end action of the title; some don't do anything; and some take you to the next title. Your case does sound unusual -- jumping ot a previous chapter in the same title. What brand and model of set top player are you testing?

johnmeyer,

FYI, if you put all your titles (i.e. media, picture compilations, and music compilations) under the root in the project overview window (and only link to them from buttons, etc.), you should be able to order your titles by dragging and dropping. The first being title 1, the second title 2, etc.

I am using an Apex AD-500W. But the problem even occurs in the preview mode. As a test, I burned the project to RW disc and let the disc play through. when it got to the end of the file it went back to the 2nd chapter of the file, even though I have the end action set to go to the first chapter of the next file.

This is the same exact problem I am having. Kinda fustrating. DVD Workshop never had that problem. I'll try you workaround and see what happens. Worse comes to worse, I'll have to render each veg to an avi and then put them all together to render out a single mpg2 file.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I'd like to look at your project file (.dar). I'll send you an email.

One additional thing -- any titles that use the same source (i.e. have exactly the same video, audio, and subtitle tracks) must be next to each other.
