One thing for sure, Acid is definitely not a priority for Sony? Maybe they only have one part time programmer working on ver. 5.0. Oh ya! that's when he's not busy debuging Vegas!

just had to say this....

And pretty well all of them dealing with this "subject".
Tell you somethin'... If Sony starts taking these threads seriously, they might just decide to put their efforts on their other software.
It's seems to me more and more of these posts are coming from "I've got to have the latest at any cost" crowd.
Dare I say it??? How many of these people are actual registered users?? I can't see any how any person who's spent good money on this software would be willing to spend hundreds more on other software only because it's newer.
Then again, it's rather cheap to go from a cracked version to another cracked version.
The funniest thing is, there hasn't been any takers on the many requests to tell us exactly how AP4.0 is holding them back.

I doubt this will apply to the usual upgrade thinking. But I can offer this to why I'm looking forward to 5.0.

There are some issues still between the installers for the new sony products and the older sonic foundry ones as well as some erratic behaviours in the unicode implementations that apparently won't be fixed till the products sync to the new coding assemblies being used. The problem itself manifests in cross components becoming confused or losing settings.authorisation/functionality - no fix forthcoming, though usually doing a couple of install reinstall motions fixes it after a while. If it comes to that.

minor inconvenience, but one very important reason to be looking to sooner over later for my own view. Of course we'd all like newer better faster. Truth be told in the now though? It's working just fine and does all it's supposed to do and more than I need it to, even a few years on, even if it has to be set aside by itself on a separate machine until they all co-exist consistently or at least make me less nervous about it when they hiccup.

Would people with cracked versions bother to post I wonder ? As you say, they'd just jump to the next app if things got messy.

Interesting though the "crack user" situation. A good friend of mine runs a small mostly hardware studio. He does have some software, all cracks. but it's interesting that because he didnt pay for any of it he also doesn't seem motivated to actually learn the apps. Consequently he only knows the most basic functions in them.

As for the "what's wrong with 4.0" question, I never use 4 anymore because:

- It takes forever to boot up. I use a Pulsar-II and lots of vsti and I think it must be scanning like mad. A little thing, but annoying.

- It sometimes crashes. Not often, but enough.

- 3.0g is just so stable and robust and slim that the benefits of using 4 are too small to use it.

- I had so many problems with early versions of bugland 4a that it was just tainted for me. I had several audio offset issues which i emailed sofo about several times and only got a very brief reply to the first one. Subsequent emails with screenshots and readouts were ignored.

The kind people here have offered to help ride me through moving to 4 but really, that's not necessary. I'm happy with 3.0g for now and will wait for v5.

I was within a "confirm order" click of getting Ableton 4 a little while ago, but I just can't face learning a whole new app. So I'll wait and hope for the best.

Actually, the Vegas 5b update was a HUGE improvement, telling me that Sony is taking their software very seriously.

Everyone screaming about the timeliness of Acid 5 would also be the first to scream at all the bugs in a premature release.

Last I checked, Acid 4 worked just as well as it did the day I bought it. So others are coming out with upgrades/new features. I personally wouldn't want to be holding the receipt for my newly-acquired Abelton 4 when Acid 5 comes out...
