Subject:Hearing effects while recording guitar..

Howdy all,

I want to record guitar into my computer through an effect plug-in such as Waves Enigma and hear the result in my headphones as I'm playing.

Is this possible??

Obviously it is when I play my MIDI keyboard, using Enigma as a Master effect; is there a way to just change the input so it is hearing my guitar?

All help much appreciated,

Nathan

Any effect for digital audio must be done externally (i.e., a hardware guitar effects processor) or post-recording via a DirectX plug-in.

I do believe some standalone effects packages (like software effects processors) will let you do what you want, but again it must be done externally before bringing it into ACID.

Is that what you were asking, or did you want to record dry while monitoring wet?

Hardware or software? If I had a choice, I'd go hardware like DigiTech's GNX series or Boss' GT series.

For software, Native Instruments released Guitar Rig, which can act as a standalone app or something like a VST effect. I think Steinberg released something too but I can't remember offhand. (You still may want to pass over these choices; they can run like dogs until you get them configured right.)

Iacobus-
Are you implying that you can record dry and monitor wet? If so, I'd love to know how.
Thanks.

Yes, you can, but you'd need the device you're using to be able to do such a function plus a mixer depending on the situation.

For example, my GNX2 guitar effects processor lets me record dry via its S/PDIF out while I listen wet via the 1/4" outs or the headphone out.

If I wanted to bring ACID into all this, I could simply route the 1/4" outs from the GNX2 directly to my mixer and have ACID record directly from the S/PDIF in on my soundcard. (Which, I might add, would produce a nice, full effect, since both the dry and wet signal would be mixed.)

If you have a similar device, check its manual to see if such a function exists, as it's usually turned off by default. Some standalone effects pedals (like a distortion stompbox) also let you route a dry signal out in addtion to a wet signal.

Oh, I see. I meant using plug-ins. I didn't think so. Thanks though.
