THe july issue of EQ magazine has a section devoted to looping and editing loops in different programs - specificly acid and recycle. Craig Anderton has some good info. It might be worth taking a look.

Funny how they're using SONAR to demonstrate looping!!!!!!

Hey we all have our favorite apps...

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that EQ is now written entirely by two people (Mitch Gallagher and Craig Anderton)? I'm finding the mag to be less useful than it used to be. Not very in-depth, and every review is positive - they use the same adjectives to describe every microphone. I'm letting my subscription die for this reason.

PS I found the article on looping to be elementary - everyone on this forum won't gain anything from it.

keyboard, sound on sound, and music tech seem to be the most informative.

mix has all the pretty pictures but i dont own an ssl, euphonics,or neve console so i dont find it that useful other than how i should design my room when i get a new house.

hardwood or marble
TV and speakers in the wall
for the ceiling , clouds or aurelex
decisions, decisions

Wait guys! Every day we answer questions that are addressed in these articles. Couldn't we use this to direct these people to something they could read?

I'd probably agree that the tips at EQ are pretty much rudimentary. (Nothing is mentioned about using stretch markers, which can really make a loop sound that much better, for example. Is ACID Pro the only app with this function? I never looked in SONAR.)

Hell, I have a boatload more of tips than that article.

I use EQ as basically a gear and software catalog (what new stuff has been released). Craig Anderton seems to write the same article each month on how to make loops. This month's article just seemed to bundle them into a rudimentary beginners guide.

Iacobus,

I'm sure you do have a boatload of tips and I'd love it if you'd share them. What about starting a (newer) thread of acid tips? Just a thought.

My thought was to help out the new people who show up here and ask the simple questions. It looks like an easy place to start.

I thought Keyboard (as I am a keyboard player) went down the tubes a long time ago.... got a free subscription from a purchase of some equipment and it has stayed IMHO bad. Of late, I think Electronic Musician is getting kinda thin too. I got a subscription to Sound on Sound and like that so far.... expensive but a good mag. The review IMHO, seem a little sweet, but not like KB or EM. Also, in a mag, there may be 1 or 2 articles I want to keep. If you subscribe to SOS, you can download the article.... so next year SOS will be it for me.

Take Care

I was thinking at various points of actually compiling tips and tricks for ACID (Pro), maybe even doing a big-time book and/or CD project, but convincing my publisher to help me with such a project has been met with lukewarm reception. (They felt the demand isn't there.) I may attempt an independent project, but what a gargantuan task that would be for just one person to accomplish.

it seems right now the british mags are kickin' the ass off US music mags.

SOS, future music, computer music, and music tech are all great (but expensive) mags.

the writers seem to be younger and more in tune. for cutting edge software and gear they're usually on top of it before the standard US mags...and we get the UK issues at least a month late!!!

the only downside is they don't seem have much experience with high-end studio stuff like good microphones, esoteric outboard gear, or larger consoles. it really throws me off when they can't tell you the difference between the $200, $600, or $1200 mic.

it seems the US mags are often times just trying to keep up with current trends and the UK mags are riding the waves in.

for example have you guys seen the new "digital DJ" mag? it covers some gear and techniques that have never been really touched by any other music mag and once again it's from the UK.

a new mag in the us called scratch is pretty good.(its like the source magazine highlighting producers.)
its a break from the other music mags.

i like sound on sounnd and music tech. but computer music seems that it aiming itself for beginers. future musc is hit or miss but they have really cool examples on there cd.

mix still has the most pretty pictures.

Magazines like Guitar World are part of Future Network USA, which is owned by Future Network PLC, publishers of mags like Future Music and Computer Music. Feels odd that so many USA mags are under the same roof. (PC Gamer, Guitar One, and Maximum PC are other mags owned by Future Network.)

Iacobus,
I love it if you could work out some kind of acid info project. I guess it would be hard to make money with it.
