how can i import a vob file and keep the 5.1 channel sound? I have tried it and only the video will work.

Vegas doesn't have an AC3 decoder in it, only an encoder.

Use DVD2AVI to strip the AC3 out of the VOB, then you can use BeSweet to convert the AC3 into 6 wav files, one for each channel.
