Remote button "Menu" disabled on submenu

I have a menu and a submenu. It would seem logical to be able to use the "Menu" button on the remote to navigate from the submenu to the main menu; however, the "Menu" remote button options are greyed out in the submenu properties, so the Menu button is disabled.

Now, I can understand why the Menu button is disabled on the main menu, but why is it disabled on the submenu(s)?

In fact, while viewing the submenu, only the "Back" remote button does what I would expect the Menu remote button to do. The only places where the Menu remote button works is while viewing material other than a menu/submenu.

Can someone explain this limitaion?

Thanks!

I believe that this is usually done with the "Return" or "Back" button.

Referring to
http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=167092&Page=0
"SonySDB" states: "The "menu" (i.e. root) button or "top menu" (i.e. title) button will always go to the root menu.

... and that's what I expected.

This is confirmed by the excellent desciption given, again by SonySDB, in
http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=167381&Page=0

Incidentally, I can also see no reason why the Menu button should be disabled on the main menu; all that it would/should do is go to itself.

FYI, the descriptions of menu button behavior you cited are for DVDA1. Things are a little different in DVDA2: the default action of a "menu" button for any media, music compilation, or picture compilation asset (i.e. title) links to the most recent menu; the default action of the menu button can be changed; and the "top menu" button now goes to the first menu in the project.

Because of how DVDA constructs the DVD, we are unable to allow any action for the "menu" button when on a menu. That's why it's disabled. In any case, for many DVD players the "menu" button becomes a "resume" button (i.e. resumes last played title) when on a menu.

With that said, I agree the "top menu" button could likely be enabled when on a menu, however DVDA disables both "menu" and "top menu" buttons when Remote Buttons | Menu is off. We will investigate and consider adding independent control for enabling/disabling the "top menu" button in a future version. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Thank you for the great improvements in navigation control in DVDA2 -- this Menu button thing will be yet another refinement to look forward to.

This problem appears to be unfixed - is their a solution or workaround?
