The more we wait for Acid Pro 5, the better it is. We all know that.

But let's be confident and optimistic for once, let's trust.

Ok, Live 4 is out. This is a good thing because it'll give the dev.team some hints about what they should be up to.

Ok, 2 and a Half year since an update. This means that AP5 will be more stable than the other releases.

Ok, we have no news for a release date. That maybe means that they are trying to get AP5 on and on to its best, and with a rock solid core. (Maybe that they had issues with the Beta Release ?).

So hope is not necessary anymore. Now we just have to show some patience, and confidence.

I don't have much hope.

Who knows for certain that there will be ACID 5 at all?

Is there any official word from SOny?

Actually it's 1 year 11 months since Acid 4 was released. It's only been 8 months since 4.0f was posted. I dunno where this "2.5 years" thing comes from.

Two years since Bugmaster-4 was released. Updates to fix critical flaws can't really be regarded as an "upgrade".

And I disagree with premise of the first post. Just because AP5 is taking years to happen is no guarantee it will be good, up to date or reasonably bugless.

You could equally easily argue that it's taking so long because:

- there are critical problems which are proving difficult to fix
- there are not enough resources assigned to the project
- Sony has given the project an extremely low priority

Well, what can I say... I hope you're wrong on these last three points. That's where we need AcidTeam's answers... Peter ? JennL ? Anyone ?

I really don't know why there is such impatience when it comes to the many threads involving this topic. Are some of you out there pro musicians or producers that are unable to generate an income without Acid 5.0? Are you still making music with Acid 4.0 or have all creativities ceased since Acid 5.0 is not out yet. I am not attacking anyone here, I just don't understand. Patience is a virtue. Live is not going to over shadow Acid. They are two separate things. Acid is not an audio sequencing program, its a looping multimedia tool. It's not meant to compete with Pro Tools, Cubase, Sonar, Storm etc. I doubt Acid 5 will make it a competitor for the above. Live is a tool for sequencing loops on the fly, which is a great DJ tool for playing live (hence the name Live). If you are a band or recording artist, you should probably seek out some of the sequencers above for you needs. I admit, simple things like midi editing improvements and a darned metronome would be nice, but don't count on multi track recording from this software. It just won't happen. There would be too much to do to the software archetecture to add that. Anyway, I am doing just fine with Acid 4.0 and when 5.0 comes out and I see what is now available, I may or may not get it. In the mean time I will continue to make music with the resources I have now and thats Acid 4.0.

I think the main reason for it taking so long is that the development team have been busy with SF, then Vegas. Those projects have been out for some time now, so I'd imagine they're working hard on a new version of ACID as we speak... or type...

My main grumble in waiting for a new version of ACID is that my TC Powercore doesn't exactly integrate seamlessly with ACID. I'm still able to work, for sure, but my work would be so much easier and better if ACID had VSTfx support, which I really can't see not being in the next version if anyone at Sony has any grasp of what's going on in the marketplace, and you can be pretty sure they have.

As for no word yet, why would you announce a release date that you can't achieve, thus annoying customers? Many software companies do this routinely in the games market, but this is a bit different.

BFB.

ithink you r not right about tey are busy with somethung at all, if they are so great programmers, they must do it like a piece of cake, for example russian programmer update ther programs very often, and they create them and support using even one man... what do you think about closin Batch Converter project? It shows that sony programmers are not so great as they seem...

"It shows that sony programmers are not so great as they seem... "

And I'm sure Joel and/or Peter would be thrilled with that remark. Nice of you to slam them whilst they provide you with a platform (this forum) to voice that opinion, isn't it?

"Are you still making music with Acid 4.0 or have all creativities ceased since Acid 5.0 is not out yet. I am not attacking anyone here, I just don't understand."

You and me both. I'm waiting for the inevitable carping once ACID 5.0 gets released, just as it happened with ACID 4.0 and ACID 3.0 and ACID 2.0...you just can't satisfy 100% of everyone all the time.

I agree that, no matter WHAT they do in 5.0, there will be bugs, crashes, bitching, whining, moaning, etc. from at least some of the users--that can't be avoided (if there are too many bugs, some of the complaints will come from ME! :o)). I'm sure the fine folks on the Acid development team are working hard to get 5.0 ready for rollout (hopefully very, very soon), but at this point, I would be thrilled just to get a glimpse at what they're planning on putting in it. I remember a couple weeks before 4.0 came out, someone found a web page on this site that had some new features listed. No one was supposed to see it yet, but the link was posted here, and some info on 4.0 got to us in "advance". I remember that, if anything, it made me that much MORE excited to get 4.0, and I bought it the day it came out. A preview for this forum only, which I dare say probably contains some of Acid's most loyal users, would be great. Not everything has to be given away--just a few key features, maybe? In other words, if Sony would throw us a few clues, I'm sure that would be a nice appetizer (sp?) before the main course is served (the main course being the actual release). Is that at all feasible?

Peace.

Rest assured that, when ACID 5.0 nears release, I guarantee you'll hear something in the pipeline, much like the buzz surrounding Vegas 5 before it was released.

There's a reason why you won't hear much before then: Usually, such developments are sealed by NDA's. That's probably because not only to prevent leaks to competitors but also to finalize features. I'm sure, for example, that if a feature was touted and then was dropped before release simply because it wasn't feasible due to time constraints, some users would be angry.

Well, tell that to Logic users on the PC platform, when Apple snapped up Emagic and left PC users in the dust. It's just the way it is, Bob.

As far as Batch Converter goes, I wouldn't be surprised if it popped up again in some form or another like CD Architect did. But users have to want it. As far as I know, Batch Converter wasn't all that popular. From a business standpoint, there's no sense on wasting resources when they can be concentrated on another project.

Batch Converter wasn't popular as a standalone, because it's not something that should BE a stand-alone! It's something that any competent program should include!

Somebody should be slapped over that decision!

(I scoffed when I saw it as a stand-alone product. I'll sooner just keep Forge 4.5 installed...)

-----------------------------

As for A5 -- well, if there *IS* going to be one, it will surely set the tone for how EVERYONE perceives Sony's handling of the SF brands/products. I would think that they are aware of this, so hopefully it will kick new ass in every imaginable way.

I am working on some real-deal records lately, with a producer that doesn't have time for crap like "it's an amazing creative tool, but it messes up your session once per hour!". Hopefully Sony appreciates this and is doing everything in their power to ELIMINATE all the quirks I and others have mentioned. (As amazing as Acid is, I can only defend it so far when the studio is billing like $10k a week and it keeps f*cking up in various ways in sessions..........)
