I am putting together a spoken word CD but having trouble making all tracks volume equal. I tried "normalize" but it seems to be porportional to the tracks. Any help would be great. Try using Wave Hammer. You can find it under track effects. You could also use volume envelopes in Vegas.

The term 'volume' gets complicated with the myriad of processes available in SoundForge. Compression can be used to emphasize dynamics, normalization can bring peak levels of all tracks to a preset point or bring up the average level of an entire track, depending on which type of normalization you use. In speech, you have to be careful not to alter the normal accents too much or the end result will sound unnatural. Hummingbird

I have used the normalization but that doesnt seem to work. The tracks are so different that I have to keep my hand on the volume control to adjust for a quiet track or turn it down for a loud one. Not normalize to peak... normalize to rms. and select each section where volume differences are separately and run them individually. It will take time but it will work. RiRo
