I am rendering a 24 bit, 44.1 stereo wav file through some mastering plug-ins, with the final one in the chain being the Waves IDR set to 16 bits. When SF asks me during the save what format template to use I pick 16 bit, 44.1 stereo wav. My question is - does choosing this template mean that SF will attempt to dither the 24 bit file down to 16 bits even though the Waves IDR is already doing that? In other words - is it getting double dithered? |

No. If you save to a different bit depth, Sound Forge will just do a straight conversion with no dither. If you save to a different sample rate, Sound Forge will resample with an algorithm similar to 'medium' quality in ACID and Vegas. If you don't trust it, you can always use the bit-depth converter in the Process menu first, just without dither or noise shaping if you use the IDR. J. |
