DVDA Architect 2.0a update is now available:

http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=519

Bug fixes/changes in 2.0a include:

A bug has been fixed that caused the Explorer window to lose its Favorites settings if the list was too long. Favorites are now saved in the following file: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sony\DVD Architect\2.0\ExplorerFavorites.txt. The file is saved whenever you close the Explorer window or exit the application. You can copy the file to different computers or user accounts to migrate Favorites settings.
To see this file, you must have the Show hidden files and folders radio button selected on the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.

A bug has been fixed that could prevent text-only buttons from being displayed on a burned DVD when a video was used as the menu background.

A bug has been fixed that caused projects with 24p menus to fail during disc preparation.

A bug has been fixed that could cause audio to drop out when previewing files from the Media Explorer window.

Video performance has been improved during project preview.

DVD Architect software now checks your project for overly complex subtitles and menu highlight masks before preparing the disc.

A bug has been fixed that prevented still menus with audio from looping.

A bug has been fixed that incorrectly considered some menus with text and graphics as compliant. This could result in missing text, buttons, and graphics on menus.

A bug has been fixed that could cause audio to play back at an accelerated rate on some DVD players when using 24-bit PCM audio.

A bug that could cause broken or incorrect chapter links when opening a DVD Architect 1.0 project has been fixed.

A bug has been fixed that caused external monitor preferences to be discarded when using a 16:9 external monitor.

A bug has been fixed that prevented markers from being loaded from elementary video streams (.m2v) rendered in Vegas software.

A bug has been fixed that caused DVD Architect to crash when previewing or preparing a disc while the application was building peaks for an AC-3 file.

A bug that caused DVD Architect to recompress some compliant media when loading a DVD Architect 1.0 project has been fixed.

What about plextor drive suppoort - PX-708A I've have had my eye on this drive for a while. Is there a Sony equivalent to the plextors.

Thanks

External previews working like a dream on PAL 16:9

DVDA2 really is a quantum leap

Thanks Chaps

Now that the PX-712A is out, why not skip the 708A? I've got both a 504A and a 712A and both work perfectly with DVDA 2. I've seen a number of people having issues with DVDA and the 708, but I certainly haven't run into any problems with either of my drives. I haven't had a single coaster with either drive or DVDA version.

Because we already own the 708A/UF and because Sony acknowledged this problem and promised to address it in the next update - see below.

Subject: RE: 1.0 and 2.0 Won't Work with Plextor

HEY SONY, WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PROMISED FIX????
planders wrote on 7/2/2004, 9:29 PM
From zcus' post, it sounded like he "had his eye on" the 708A, but didn't already have it. Hence my suggestion.

Planders - My bad, I read too quickly - sorry about that

Although for those of us who do what the 708A/UF, still wondering where the fix is.

Sorry for those still having problems, but I'm glad to report that DVDA2 now finds my LiteOn 411S burner, even if it contains a DVD-R disc.

Previously the -R disc acted like a Harry Potter cloak of invisibility for the burner.

Don't forget Plextor people, you can prepare in DVDA and burn in whatever software came with your burner.

Thanks, Sony.

Checking subtitle compliance before disk prep works fine.

Anyone else having trouble with ntsc playback on external monitor? DVDA 2 works ok, DVDA 2A will not preview to external monitor. I uninstalled 2A, Then I reinstalled 2-works OK. Reinstalled 2A upgrade...no external monitor.
Seems to be consistent.

Warren,

Just checked DVDA2a and your correct can't get external preview here either. Guess I'll try going back and see if it works.

When I start DVDA 2.0a, it does not send output to my external monitor (using Canopus ADVC100) even though the option IS turned on.

If I go into Options, Preferences, Video Device, change the "Device" to "None", apply, then back to "OHCI...", apply, then it starts to work.

When I leave DVDA 2.0a and come back, it stops working and I have to do this all over again.

Thanks for the confirmation, I have this problem on two boot partitions, so it's quite consistent. I have gone back to V2 till Sony devises a fix. I am using a Canopus DC300, though I don't think the problem is related to the Canopus.

Another one here. Can't get the "external monitor" to work. I've got a Canopus ADVC-100 to send video signal to it.

DVDA2a addresses the issue with the Plextor drive. Please download and try.
bStro wrote on 7/5/2004, 9:05 AM
I was hoping I'd be immune to this since I'm using a "plain old" camcorder instead of a Canopus. Alas, same experience.

Ron's workaround works, though. Change device to None, apply, then change back to the correct device.

The workaround for external monitor does produce a picture, but try using keyboard shortcuts when playing the timeline eg spacebar or return. On my machine it locks up tight and only the three fingered salute can shut it down!!
If using a spaceshuttle it wont work either.

I have been able to repro the problem of the external monitor feature of DVD Architect 2.0a not recalling "NTSC DV" mode correctly.

The workaround is to go into Preferences, Video Device tab, switch to "NTSC DV Widescreen", hit "Apply", switch back to "NTSC DV" and hit "OK". You should only have to do this when you first open up the application.

For 2.0a, I fixed the bug where it didn't recall the other modes correctly. We tested the heck out of it, but somehow missed the fact that I broke NTSC DV recall, and I apologize for that. I will get it fixed for the next update, but I do not know the plan for a subsequent update.

Hi All,

The update seems to be solid enough but a few minor issues have arisen.

1) Externally created m2v files are ok during the authoring and build process but when the program is closed and reopened the video, which is PAL 4:3 is letterboxed and squashed. Tried two different m2v files and the same issue.

2) I use a canopus ADVC100 and DVDA-2 is very iffy as to when it will work and when not. I have read other issues re this on the forum.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is there a list somwhere that details the advantages of DVDA 2 over DVDA 1?

I am still using DVDA 1 and I am curious to know whether it is a worthwhile investment to upgrade to DVDA 2. For example, can DVDA 2 produce MPEG-4 DVDs?

Thanks,
Lynn

Why does it still take ages to open decent size AC3 files.
It looks like it does not create a peak file when it firsts opes an AC3 file.
