Subject:How Do You Record Your Soft Synths?

Hey,
I am sure it's probably been asked, but it's pretty buried with all the topics. I am trying to record of the synths, you know the piano and such, but I only have the piano on my computer, it is not a external keyboard. Now of course I am a newbie and I have no idea how to record the little sessions I play on the midi piano. I want to record the MIDI tracks that I play on the piano. So, if someone could please tell me, it would rock. Thanks
Mat

With soft synths you just render the track to a wav file. But are we talking about that? I'm not sure.

If you want to record the whole track as a wav file just solo the MIDI track and select File > Render as... and select wav file. Then delete the MIDI track and drop the wav rendered track as a beatmapped track.

If you want to record them as audio (wav) loops, just select the part you want to make a loop out of and Select in Chopper. Once its in the Chopper play it to make sure it loops correctly and adjust the in and out points if it doesn’t. Then select Chop to New Track... to isolate that part on a separate track and follow the directions above to solo it and render as a wav file. You can then bring that wav file back as a loop and replace your MIDI parts with it.

Well, thanks guys but I guess I wasn't specific with my question. I'll try to explain in more detial. I have the soft synth up, and lets just say it's FeedBack Gt. and there is a little piano that I can play. Now, how do I record something that I play on that piano part, and place it in the song. If you could help that would really help

hit the "record" button, choose the (new) midi file you will be writing to , select the softsynth in the MDI Thru dropdownlist .
click on "start".
the tracks which are already layed out in your project will play back while you can record the midi events from your keyboard.
stop the recording and you will see the results.
(if necessary open the editor of the recorded midi file and adjust it to fit your composition.)

that's a pretty simple explanation but that's how i understood your question.

Thank you for replying. I tried just that, and as it's "recording" my MIDI piano is disabled and I cannot get the soft synth window to even be active. Hope you can help

If I'm understanding you correctly, you cannot record using the default DLS synth keyboard you see in the Soft Synth Properties window. You must use a hardware MIDI keyboard (or other compatible hardware MIDI control interface) to record in this case.

Do you know about midi? BTW, that was a serious question. It helps to know how midi works.

Here is what you do
Forget this "little piano" . You cannot play it while you are recording .
1 Go to insert menu , insert an empty midi track (CTRL ALT Q )
2 Assign this track to DLS soft synth ( there's a tiny knob right above your track volume slider )
3 Double click on the the track number (the only color spot )
4 Look for "piano roll" in the left upper corner. Click it
5 Look for a tiny speaker icon ( right upper side ) . Click it so you can monitor another little piano on the left :-) .
5. Thats pretty much it.. Draw your notes
6 Well...When you fed up drawing things buy a hardware midi controller

P.S. If you really really prefer play keyboard with a mouse
download bome 's keys . They are free
