Subject:Lopsided WAV

I recorded a vocal recently and started to trim it up a little bit, and I noticed the waveform looked a bit lopsided in the display. What I mean is, the waveform is shifted downward from center line. More of the waveform is below center than above, so when I normalize the WAV, the peaks below touch the edge of the graph window, but there is a sizeable gap on the upper edge. I would have to guess that this will interfere with any attempts to maximize or compress it.

Why / how does this anomoly happen?

How can the file be corrected?

Check and correct the DC offset.

If you don't have that option it may not be much of an issue. I've seen this with 0 DC offset and processed without audible problems.
