Subject:Acid and DirectX 9

Hello all,
I recently had to install Direct X 9 on my machine (Win 98SE, 1.8 Athlon XP, 512M Ram, 40 gig hard drive), and now if I try to run Acid it just freezes. If I reboot the machine, it works fine but after I exit acid and try to restart it later on I get the same problem. Has anybody experienced this yet?

What do you have for sound and video? Are there updated drivers for those devices? (Try also reducing or turning off video acceleration.)
