I downloaded: ACID XPress and it was posted under free software, after I installed it I'm asked to enter a number to activate it?? Does that mean I'll have to pay for it or what number should I use and where to get it?? |

I haven’t installed the latest ACID Express 4.0 but the 3.0 version did not ask for a number to activate it. It did require that you connect to the Internet to activate it, but there was no number to type in. Is it the on-line activation that you are referring to? ~jr |

Yes, I was under the impression that I'd have to get online and type in a code, of some sort. Is that all there is to it, getting online and activate with Sonymedia?? My DAW is not connected to the net, so I'll take it to a friends house and hook it up. All my "web'ing" is done from work. All I wanted, was to fiddle with this "Loops" thing, I'm use to just recording audio and work with that. So I have a question for you JohnnyRoy, is it any good, ACID XPress that is? |

I believe there is an option to register from another computer. You will need a diskette so you can take a file with a web page on it to another computer and use that web page to get to Sony. Then you will get a .reg file in an email and have to download that back to diskette. Then take the diskette back to the original computer and execute the .reg file to update the registry. It’s easier than it sounds. As for is ACID Express any good to fiddle with, the answers is definitely yes. It allows you to create songs with up to 10 tracks of loops. This is enough to give you a good idea of what looped based composition is all about. Download some free loops from the Sony web site and give it a try. I used ACID Express for a while before I upgraded to ACID Music 3.0 and then to ACID Pro 4.0. Sony Screenblast ACID (formerly ACID Music) gives you unlimited tracks and some track FX like reverb, etc. You can actually do a lot with that. I upgraded to ACID Pro because I’m a keyboard player and wanted the ability to record MIDI with VST Instruments (which is only available in the Pro version) The interface of all three is the same. Each just adds more functions. ~jr |
