Vegas 5 can encode audio to AC3, you need to either buy the Vegas + DVD package or purchase the AC3 encoder seperately in order to be able to do it. You won't be able to with just the standard verson of Vegas 5.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I did purchase the full Vegas5 and Dvd Architect2 as an upgrade from V4 and DVD1. In V4,under File, render, the second option from the top, save as type, is Dolby Digital ac-3. Vegas 5 has no such option

Then something went wrong. Either re-install or contact Sony support on the phone. I had a similar problem with MP3 not showing up in Sound Forge after installing Vegas 5. There are apparently, several problems due to the whole Sony/SoFo renaming thing and sometimes you just have to pick up the phone and call support to get it resolved.

You should have AC3 as an option just like in Vegas 4.

Thank you JohnnyRoy. You were on the right track. I uninstalled V5, then downloaded V5b and installed that.
Success!
Thanks again for your help
