Subject:I want my MP3's to sound like classic 80's CHR FM processing!

Here's what I'm doing now...

I pitch my music up 4 %, normalize, deep compress it with Wave Hammer and then add a dusting of reverb.

Only problem is, I don't have much "thump". The bass is there but the drums
get buried in the mix. I've tried using Bass Wave Hammer and it still sounds off.

How do I get that classic 80's "top 40" fm sound--loud, compressed, THUMPY. Does SF have an "aural exciter" in filters?

HELP!

Thanks.

I'ld like to assist, but I'm not familiar with the sound you're describing. Do you have any audio you can refer us too, to better describe the sound you're looking for?

80's FM was run through an Orban Optimod FM.

Baiscally a three-band compressor/limiter. Dunno the settings, but that is your processing. The louder it was set, the worse it sounded. There were some good sounding stations, but there were also some bad ones. A good cheap plug that can pretty much duplicate the process is DBM-multiband limiter. I use it a lot for that very sound.

Maybe if you pitched it same or down your thump wouldn't become castrated. There is the Barcus Berry exciter commonly available as a DX plug. And Waves Maxxbass (and similar) will give some more ooomph, but not 'attack'. Of course filtering everything through the MP3 process ain't gonno help either...
