Subject:not all VST's from Komplete 2 are not loading in ACID

I bought the Komplete 2 promo package and I'm having a hard time getting several of the instruments to show up in ACID 4 Pro as plug ins. Is there a trick to it? The DLL's show up in c:\program files\VST Plugins but ACID refuses to load them. They work as stand alones but that doesn't do me a lot of good. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Some of the components of Komplete 2 are not VST Instruments. They are VST effects and ACID doesn’t support VST effects like Cubase & SONAR do. It only supports DirectX effects. So Vokator and NI-Spektral Delay won’t work with ACID but Absynth 2, B4 Organ, FM7, PRO-53, Kontakt 1.5, Komptakt, Battery should. I think Reaktor 4 and Intakt will work too but I’m not sure. Intakt is a loop based program just like ACID from what I understand.

It's Absynth, FM7, and Pro-53 that aren't loading. The NI tech guy had me move the installer to my hard drive but that didn't help. They all run in stand alone mode so I don't understand why they won't load up in ACID. I already had Pro-53 and FM7 before I bought Komplete and they worked fine as VST instruments. Very frustrating!

Did you uninstall the other versions first? Try forcing ACID to rescan for plugins using Options > Preferences > VST Instruments > Refesh and see if that helps.

I've done that several times after each reinstall, no luck. Is there an INI file or something I can hack to add the missing DLL's?

I would suggest you call Sony support. It sounds like you did everything right. The only other suggestion would be to move the DLL’s to another folder and add that folder to your VST search path in ACID. Or reinstall the original VSTi’s that worked and elect not to install them from Komplete 2. These are both just shots in the dark. Good luck,

a (unusual) way to force ACID to rescan the plugins is to delete the registry entry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\ACID\4.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth\Plugs
(delete the whole folder "Plugs") , which will completely reset the list of plugins stored by ACID and at next scan fill it up freshly.

Plastique, you are a genius! That worked like a champ, all my Komplete plugins are now available. Thank you!!!

Hi
I have been trying to get Garritan Personal Orchestra VSTi to work in Acid for a while with no success (it isn't even appearing in the list within Acid Pro) - was interested to read your suggestion about deleting the 'plugs' folder which seemed to work for rjshama. I've had a look on my system, but can't find the file path you specified - not sure what is meant by HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and there isn't a 'metrics' folder within Acid on my c drive. Am I looking in the wrong place? Do you think this should work to get Garritan recognised?
Thanks.
LD

Yes, this isn’t a drive path. It’s a registry entry. If you’re not comfortable editing the registry then you should probably call product support and have them walk you through it or find a friend that is comfortable doing it. Here’s what you have to do:

First, if you have XP, create a restore point on your computer. If you don’t know how to do this, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Click Create a Restore Point and press Next. Give the restore point a name like ‘Before I deleted Plugs from the registry” and press Create. Now if you mess things up, you can go back here and select Restore my computer to an earlier time, and it will undo any changes you’re about to make. OK, that was only a precautionary measure. Now on to what you really have to do:

Select Start > Run... Then in the Open: entry field type regedit. This will bring up the Registry Editor. In the left window you’ll notice a tree view starting with My Computer and one of the registry hives under it will be HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Open that and you’ll see an entry at the next level called Software. Open that and find Sonic Foundry then ACID etc. until you’ve navigated all the way down through this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\ACID\4.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth\Plugs

Right-click on the Plugs entry and select Export... from the pop-up context menu. This will let you save a backup of the registry entry you are about to delete. Give it a name (e.g., “old-plugs.reg”), remember where you saved it, and press OK. Now with the Plugs key highlighted, just press the delete key or right-click and select delete from the context menu.

Close the Registry Editor and open ACID and it should rescan for all the plugins and find GPO.

Once again, if you’re not comfortable with editing the registry, find someone who is or call the Sony help desk. You can seriously disable your computer by deleting the wrong thing. You can always get the old plugs back by double-clicking on the old-plugs.reg file that you saved to have the registry entry put back in. As a last resort you can use system restore to put everything back the way it was. Good luck.

You are very welcome. I’m glad it worked out. I am always cautious when telling people to edit their registry but once you do it, its not that bad. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil sometimes. Glad you’re back running again. We’ll have to have a cyber-beer together sometime. ;-)
