Subject:normalize this

is there a true tute out there for normalizing. i want to even a song out so it doesn't go from the top volume, to loud to hear, to the lowest volume, where you have to turn the radio up. when i recorded this live mix, the singers got out of hand. now i have this file that causes you to have to work the volume knob when playing back.

Normalization won't help. You need compression. Take a look at Effects / Wave Hammer. This should do everything you heed, quickly, easily, and in one step.
