Subject:recording pauses

When I record with the playback option checked, the recording stalls (the playback music continues fine). You can see the seconds counter stop for a few seconds. The result is that the sound recorded during the stall is lost and everything after it is out of sync with the rest of the project. we have tryed all of settings with the buffer, and we have 256 mmb of Ram. we have specifyed the "playback files from disk if bigger than" option to be anywhere from 0 to 256.

Any Ideas? Please help!

What's your soundcard/audio interface?
