Subject:Why when I split MP3s are they converted to WAVs?

I have some large (1 hour +) MP3 files that I have been using SF to spit into tracks using markers and regions. When extracting the regions into the seperate files, SF always saves them as WAV files, forcing me to use another program to convert them back to MP3. Why is this, and is there a workaround that I have missed to avoid conversion and (I assume) loss of quality that goes with it? I've tried a dozen other products to use instead, but SF is still by far the easiest for the the splitting process. Thanks! |

First question: why are you working with MP3 files? Second question: why don't you use Sound Forge to convert them back to MP3? MP3 is a destination format. It's not intended to be used as a source file for further editing. If you're burning CDs from these files then WAV is what you want to end up with. If having the files play together seamlessly after being split is important then you don't want MP3 because this will add slight gaps to the beginning and end of each new file. |

A friend of mine had recorded a bunch of old vinyl LPs a couple of years ago in MP3, and as of now that's all I have to work with, |
